my new book; take a lick!

yeah, i didn't expect to start a new book tonight... like, its hot and i didn't really feel like getting down on the floor like, 'low-down' with the scissors and glue stick and glitter stickers and all that. its far more strenuous than one might think to get a cover on one of these things. seriously. but, as you artists out there well know, the wave just swept over me, and the next thing i knew, i was doing it. and it was a good thing the muses decided to stop by, because my last book was dangerously close to the final useable pages. so yeah, i pushed and cut and glued and placed and made a thousand and one tiny desicions and calculations. because, yeah... i never use rulers or anything to get my stuff straight... its all done by sight. so, i'm happy to say i'm pleased with it... i just wish my photo-equipment was better, but oh well, you work with what you have. so let's see what we have here, models-wise. it seems like my angel joe strummer has the rare honor of being on more than one book. he's a two-time cover boy. this is a great shot of him on the tom snyder show... back when he was on tom snyder. i have no idea what year it was. man, he's effing gorgeous. so sweet, and candy-deelish; hence the title, 'lollipop.' plus, i just like the way the word looks. now for the medallions. from left to right we have: actor richard dixon as oofy prosser in the 'jeeves and wooster' series; sylvie vartan snipped from one of jean-lucien's marvelous collages; the post-'babydoll' glamorous miss carroll baker; the one and only terry jones; the ...multi-talented...?? nell campbell from 'the rocky horror picture show' ; david bowie from 'the man who fell to earth,' ; and finally, but never least, semi-trashy disco chick, debbie harry. so um, dig it... my groovy new book. pop trash

hey, i just ran across this gem, and i thought i should pass it along. honestly, i think it more or less speaks for itself. yes, we've got the gangly party animal iggy 'james austerberg' pop, with a brew in one hand, and almost-deb's tit in the other. and deb herself is managing to look almost-conscious as she grabs ig around his spindly waist. and whoa, she's got that tongue out, just to prove what a wild 'nightlife' chick she is. i imagine there was some lofty conversation going on that night. and i wonder who's holding the camera? andy warhol, maybe? alexander gudnov with a coke high? liza minnelli? perchance miss tatum o'neal? hey, who knows? but i dig the picture. sleaze at its finest.

disco sucks...

...except when it doesn't. yes, people can 'bag on' disco all they want, but i say what i always say about almost any genre of music: 75% of it truly does suck, but there's that 25% that does not. and, when we're talking about disco, and blondie, then i have to say we're talking about that wonderful, electric, delicious 25%... that does not... suck, that is. in fact, the first time i was handed a quarter and directed towards the jukebox at the smalltown 'pepe's pizza,' i selected a blondie track. 'heart of glass,' i think it was. (not to be confused with the first 45 single i ever bought with my own money... i'm proud to say that was the very legit and intelligent 'genius of love' by the tom tom club.) yes, disco... i have no shame in admitting i dig some disco. i was raised on it. it wasn't all i heard, fortunately my stepfather had a wide range of tastes, so i heard a little bit of a lot of things... and my mother made sure i knew about nat king cole and ricky nelson. so, most of the 'disco' i was exposed to was via my big bad american television set... 'dance fever,' 'american bandstand,' movies on cinemax, ('can't stop the music') ...that sort of thing. so... here's to all the 'good' disco. amen.
