georgina hale

ahhhh, god. i am so in love with this chick. its hard for me to remember the first time i ever saw georgina hale. i'm sure it was in a ken russell movie, but its hard for me to say which one. this is a picture of her i found a long time ago, when she was obviously quite young... her hair a bit darker than the angelic platinum blonde she's usually known for. wow... she's beautiful. anyone who's followed 'planetcool' for any length of time knows how madly in love with her i am. she's quite well-known in England, even to this day, for her work on screen, stage, and television. her voice is a glinting mix of velvety lows and childlike, sometimes piercing highs. her face, when she acts, is expressive and brave... unafraid to scowl, knit her brow, and look 'ugly,' if the scene requires it. what a darling. ahhhh, georgina. i wonder her middle name is? if she has one. i think her largest role in a ken russell movie has to be her role in 'mahler,' as alma, mahler's wife. so, i guess what i'm trying to say, if you're curious as to why i'm so crazy about her, your best bet for a 'big taste' of her goods would be 'mahler.' that, or 'the devils,' where she steals every scene she appears in. only, her hair isn't blonde in 'the devils,' but that doesn't mean she's any less frickin' spellbinding. ohhh, my darling georgina... if only i had a way to tell you how much i adore you. hey, maybe one day she'll get bored wherever she is, and someone might just tip her off to a groovy blog... a blog called 'planetcool.'

more georgina

yes, thanks to the quick spearfishing of jean-lucien, i have a brand new silky shot of miss georgina hale to share with you. here she is, as phillipe, in ken russell's masterpiece, 'the devils.' wow. could she BE any more beautiful, i ask you? in this scene, she is gleefully witnessing the 'burning-at-the-stake-style' execution of her ex-lover. left pregnant and alone, she went on to bear her bastard child. she was also witness in the gallery as he was brought up on charges of witchcraft and heresy. she laughed and drank from silvery goblets as his flesh burned and sizzled. what becomes of phillipe and and her child are never expressed in 'the devils.' but her impact on the storyline cannot be understated. she, along with a lovesick, swooning, hunchbacked nun (played by vanessa redgrave) brought father grandier (oliver reed) to the men who would ensure to his destruction. you can never have too much georgina, ladies and gentlemen. she is criminally underrated as an actress. (at least in this country.) but i for one, will never pass up an opportunity to sing her praises. sigh. (click to enlarge)

oui, it is my new book, no?

oui, it is my new book YES! so yeah, thanks to my beloved jean-lucien sending me a sweet tasty bundle of new picksh, i was able to get my new dazzling volume of fantasy and laughs off the ground tonight. well, i just got the cover on. and i like it. let's see, as the Stars we have the gorgeous and ethereal miss georgina hale, as the sinning-and-seeking-absolution phillipe on the right, and mr. oliver reed as the trying-to-be-holy-yet-tormented-by-temptations father grandier on the left. the image is of course, from the ken russell masterpiece 'the devils.' (and wow, wow, wow.... if you can get your hands on an uncut copy of the film, then man, strap yourself in and get ready for the searing carnal ride. truly, not only is it one of the finest films ken russell has ever made, i daresay it is amongst the finest films of all the 1970's. it is as gorgeous as it is hellish and shocking.) and um, the title word, 'oui,' seems to speak for itself. it is an exotic and positive word. although i must admit i chose it for the look of the word as much as i did for the meaning. i have great hopes for this book, which was hatched on the first day of june. so okay, now for the medallions below the main picture... let's see, what do we have? from left to right, we have the late, great, tough and sexy mr. joe strummer, smoking a tough 'don't care' cig; then we have some random retro aqua lighting; then hey! let's hear it for the disco scene, because we've got a shot of the curvy and tough annette from 'saturday night fever,' lighting tony's disco cig. ('...but you'd ask me to lay down...') then we've got the lovely and legendary orchid-colored couple of lucy and dougie from 'sgt. pepper's lonely heart's club band,' doing 'you never give me your money,' ; and after them? well it's the marvelous karl malden as mitch from kazan's 'a streetcar named desire,' peeking through the drapes. then next up, in the blue circle, there's the loving sparring couple of 'empire's' princess leia and han solo, bickering in the south passage of Hoth. and last, but certainly never, ever least... we have the silver-haired and handsome, painfully sexy mr. ian holm, as tom frost in cronenberg's buggy epic 'naked lunch,' of course based (somewhat) on william s. burroughs great book. so here it is lovers, dig it... the clutch of blank pages that will soon be filled with literally thousands of separate inkstrokes. its always an odd feeling when i start a new book. like, i always find it hard to believe i'll ever get the whole thing filled up... but hey, i've got about nine year's worth of books like this, all full... so i guess it's all a matter of uncapping that pen, and starting with the first date, the first quote, and that first bit of wit that makes my darling laugh. thank you God. Seriously. (click to enlarge) (oh, and i've since realized that annette's not in fact lighting tony's cig. just wanted to correct that.)

alma

i christened a new book tonight, lovers. i was working with limited supplies, all the same, i think i came up with a great-looking cover. the star is none other than mr. alain whyte. he was morrissey's guitarist and close collaborator for a long time. if my recollection is correct, i think this picture was taken backstage, sometime in the mid-90's. that's as close as i can get right now, as a time frame. i love alain whyte. according to the ghostly computer sources, he was born alain gordon whyte on july 3rd, 1967. he was not a performer on morrissey's latest tour, but is apparently still a collaborator. sort of like the 'mccartney' to morrissey's 'lennon.' i don't mean to imply anything, but the two men have been very close. it is even rumored by some that hot alain was 'the one' who broke morrissey out of his spell of long-suffering self-induced celibacy. but that's just a rumor. but hey, morrissey could do a lot worse, don't you think? alain is a brilliant songwriter and instrumentalist. he's a dreamy singer with an exquisite vocal range. and he looks great. he can be seen, prominently featured in the must-have dvd of morrissey's live show 'who put the M in Manchester?' (if you haven't seen it, then you haven't seen 'recent morrissey.') he's done a few rockabilly-flavored solo projects, but to me he'll always be one of morrissey's band. he's just marvelous. oh, and i almost forgot... the book title, 'alma,' comes from my own name, almadora. (mmm, no kidding.) and lets see who else is featured in the little medallions. okay, from left to right, we have: a young miss jane fonda, just starting out in new york, then we've got the one and only mr. neil innes in drag, then the one and only miss georgina hale, then mr. john (duran) taylor, getting his makeup on, in a still-frame from the 'girls on film' video, then just an aqua star, and last but never, never least, we've got a shot of davy jones from the monkees' classic 'fair tale' episode. so that's it. a brand new book with all those clean pages. wish me luck. blue jewel

mmm, i love leaving some of my old books with jean-luc. because, when he has time, he lovingly scans in and uploads some of my better past notebook illustrations. i'm not sure what the date on this one would be... but i remember i was in the upstairs bedroom in the main house when i made it, which means it's at least two years old. and, apart from it being a little bit 'cleaned-up' after it had been scanned, jean-luc really didn't alter it very much at all. he does such a wonderful job. it makes it effortless for me to trust his talent and judgement. its quite a bit larger and more complicated than my decorations these days... life changes and time constraints and other things factor in to dictate how much time (and ink...!) i can spend on each page. (hey, in these 'tight times,' i've found myself cutting back on even the volume of f***ing ink i lay down. its like, the 'oil of the old west' in my artistic world... if that makes any sense.) so um, techincal points aside, let's see what we have here. yes, the background is a negative image of a detail of a gustav klimt painting. the rounded tiles depict: morrissey, in a freeze-frame from his marvelous 'who put the m in manchester?' dvd, then a screen shot of georgina hale from ken russell's masterpiece 'mahler,' annnd one more shot of morrissey dressed as a priest, because i was in love with him at the time and figured like, two morrisseys are better than one. i'm glad such an old image scanned so well. oh, and the half-face beside the first morrissey is none other than ronan vibert. (and i apologize profusely for the use of yellow. it is probably my least favorite color. seriously, yellow is sooo square.) (...and click to enlarge)

thistle

yes, i christened a new book tonight. and i found i was a little bit hesitant with the picture choice. hey, don't get me wrong, i love the shot. but, i knew other people were going to see it, and i realize a lot of people don't think the monkees are as cool as jean-luc and i think they are. yes, after all these years, i'm still an immense, crazy, non-apologetic, die-hard monkees fan. and mike nesmith is, and always has been, my hands-down fave. (his solo music is incredible... like, 97% of it is stuff i would want on a desert island.) so lets see... what exactly do we have here? yes, we have an amorous second-season michael nesmith attempting to woo the groovy biker chick. (the actress's name in ginny gann.) its from a mostly-great episode called 'the wild monkees,' where the guys have to 'get tough' to impress the all-girl motorcycle gang... only to find out they're 'tired of the open road,' and want to turn over a new leaf and get all feminine. the whole episode is worth a look, even the contrived and goofy bike race musical sequence near the end. i titled it 'thistle' because it sort of felt like the cold thorns of the remaining winter are still upon us... yet, the dainty, fresh flowerings of spring are not far away. and i've always liked that word, too. in the 'medallions' at the bottom of the main picture we have, left to right: the full moon, a beautiful 1970's 'curly hair' variety julie christie, an orange sweet dripping of honey, the closely-shorn harrison ford in 'blade runner,' an orchid, and last but never, never least, my main lady, miss georgina hale. i have to say i'm pleased with it. now i just have to fill it up. wish me luck. oh, and please forgive the imperfect reproduction... i just laid it down on my carpet and took a picture of it while the cat was being weird. ronan and georgina

man, i still feel a little shagged-out from pulling an oscar-related 'all-nighter' last night. so i don't have a whole lot to post. haven't found time to go on a serious pearl-dive recently. plus, i have to cook again on wednesday. i'm thinking about making quesadillas and rice. so um, yeah, just to hold my place i'm posting another little slice of notebook art, from like, at least two years ago. (man, has it been that long?) like, i don't have the specific journal in front of me right now, but if i did, i'm pretty sure the date would be around '06. so um, who do we have here? on the right, its the delightful ronan vibert as wilmot pershaw from his one episode of 'jeeves and wooster.' (the episode is officially called 'jeeves sets sail,' in case anyone is interested.) so, yeah, there's ronan, and some deep fruit-punchy colors... the shot of ronan is from a screen capture jean-lucien took a long time ago. and on the right, is a minaturized scan of one of my journal covers. the main image is georgina hale from 'mahler.' the little phrase was randomly cut out of a science book... maybe about gemstones or something. so dig it, and hopefully i'll have more for you soon. experimental georgina

as you'll read on the post below, i've been screwing around with some photographic techniques; like, that's because i'm an artist, and that's the kind of wild stuff i do to amuse myself. so, i've been taking pictures of my computer screen with all sorts of stuff on it. and although the images aren't like, 'razor-sharp,' resolution-wise, i still am digging on the egg-drop wispyness of the stuff i'm managing to get. and some unexpected colors have been popping up, just from the random behavior of strange added filters and accidental elements. here's a shot i took of my blonde darling georgina hale. it was a black and white clip, but somehow, the end result had an aquamarine hint to it. i liked it, so i tried to bring it out a little. its weird, the grain is still quite fine, but the detail is hazy. below, you'll see another try with a different model. cool stuff.

georgina by jean-lucien

i really don't think i've posted this one yet. its a screen capture jean-lucien took from the ken russell film 'mahler,' quite a long time ago. it is, of course, the silky blonde delectable georgina hale as mahler's faithful wife. good pictures of georgina are notoriously rare, so sometimes the best way to get them is to shoot them yourself, i've found. i love the 'stained-glassy' color treatment jean-luc lent this one. he's got such an incredible talent for 'vamping-up' and-or skewering the original color palette without making it too 'shocky' or distorted. all his color treating retains a fine spectral integrity that 'works' on a 'lizard level' with the rods and cones and lenses of the human eye. harmonious and fun-to-dig-on, its like normal film stock on a high sugar diet and lots of dreamy sleep. he really is the best at it. and luckily, he's got a fine system to work on. man, what a lovely shot. like candy. yum yum.

nine five seventy-two

i made this collage in class one day... in my lap, when i was supposed to be paying attention; back when i was in class. i just had a black cardboard background, and started gluing things down. i didn't plan on anything, i just let the colors and the shapes lay where they wanted to. its pretty enough, isn't it? of course, this is the final image, after jean-lucien lent it that 'fish-eye' distortion treatment. let's see, clockwise, we've got... georgina hale as alma mahler at about 11:57... then, at 12:01 and :02, we've got the wild glam rock duo of ewan mcgregor as curt wilde and john-rhys myers as brian slade in 'velvet goldmine.' then, at 4:45, we've got georgina as alma mahler again, then a big, important number five (taken from the richard lester film, 'help!') , and then finally, at 9:45, a somber shot of my darling ian holm as tom frost in david cronenberg's 'naked lunch.' i think its groovy. amazing what an idle mind and a bit of technology can come up with. (click to enlarge)

much needed georgina

yes, it's been a little too long since i paid tribute to my silky blonde muse, miss georgina hale. i wonder if she has a middle name? and if so, i wonder what it is? (i've never had a middle name come up in any of my searches.) anyway, she's incredible. umm, yeah, this is a shot from the 1975 film 'mahler' directed by the great ken russell. wow, i love this movie. i realize its an acquired taste, but what can i say? i dig the dazzling strange caviar that IS a ken russell classical music biography. i really should own a copy by now, but my life just hasn't gone that way. yet. so, just for the sake of celebration, enjoy this frame. in the movie, its right before she bounds around the countryside, silencing all of nature so her moody husband gustav can get some 'tortured artist' writing done.

art in red

here's a cool slice of notebook art i just dug up from my archives. jean-lucien sent it to me a long time ago. from left to right we have the red-tricked shot of georgina hale as alma mahler from ken russell's 'mahler,' then a slice of morrissey from the 'dagenham dave' video, then an unknown elongated female shadow. i love it. it has a dazzling stained glass effect. just gorgeous. and no, i don't think it 'means' anything... its just beautiful for art's sake. (click to enlarge)

upskirt art

i hope jean-lucien doesn't mind my posting this. it was a great, groovy notebook illustration he sent me a long time ago. it shows his keen eye for balance, color, and style. the original was probably no larger than a pack of gum. i love the colors. and the image in the middle is a screen capture of georgina hale as mrs. alma mahler from the ken russell film 'mahler.' its a fantasy sequence depicting gustav mahler's death, funeral, and subsequent cremation. she dances a saucy can-can on top of his casket. then she strips down to lacy panties and dances seductively amidst a group of soliders with a groovy fan of purple feathers. its really something. especially if you like either ken russell or georgina hale. great work, jean-luc.

l is for 'the lotus eaters'

here's a cool slice of notebook art i constructed and scanned a long time ago. don't get me wrong, there are elements of jean-lucien's work in it, too. i mean, we're almost completely symbiotic, so it might go without saying that both our hands are (were) in it. it was laid down as a notebook illustration, back when i still had to carry a notebook around. lets see, from left to right, we've got ian holm as science officer ash from 'alien,' and on the right, surprise-surprise, its georgina hale from 'mahler.' i typed the 'lotus' text mostly after the michael stipe lyric, which was mostly based on the chapter in 'the odyssey' about the lotus eaters. i did my fair share of hand-inking the little black squares, but as i said, jean-lucien deserves (at least) equal credit. g is for georgina hale ...again

i thought i had posted every picture i had of the impossibly-beautiful miss georgina hale, but tonight i happened to come across one more. as i said with the eleanor bron posting, its hard for me to talk about the breathtaking miss hale without sounding completely 'lesbo.' i mean, i don't even 'prefer blondes.' but one has only to see her in action to realize that georgina's sooo much more than a pretty face. in my opinion, she is one of the finest english actresses in modern memory. every bit as good, certainly, as the oft-acclaimed miss glenda jackson. in ken russell's 'the devils' she robs the spotlight with a justified flourish and zeal. in fact, that same very heavy movie would fall apart without her crucial anchor in the role of the wayward and much-wronged phillipe. (i'd love to post some of her best scenes, but thanks to the USA's staunch resistance to releasing the controversial film, i cannot.) here she is at the earliest zenith of her popularity, looking super-cool. i implore anyone who can get their hands on a dvd copy of 'the devils' to do so. its an intelligent, unforgiving, grizzly experience. (click to enlarge.)

honeybook

here's an example of one of our handwritten notebooks i wrote and decorated myself. and i freely admit, this shows all the signs of not knowing when to stop. i really didn't need the overhead collage banner or the faceted pink square georgina cabochon. all the rest alone would have been plenty. and the title was-is splendid enough. the main image is the lovely darling miss georgina hale as alma mahler from the ken russell film 'mahler.' but i just got carried away with the sugar-shaker, so to speak. still, i wanted to show it to you. it still beats the hell out of all those handwritten journals with plain 'no frills' covers. which i don't understand. i mean, even if its just for your physics notes or sketchy poems, why not slap a groovy picture on it? i mean, you're going to have to look at it. and a groovy notebook is also a great conversation starter, whether you're in the market for that sort of thing or not. in any case, dig it, this notebook of mine, which is at least a year or more old. click to enlarge, it gets really big... maybe too big... ( if there is such a thing. )

sweet gina

i really don't feel inspired to post very much tonight, but i wanted to mark my place, so here's a rare shot of miss georgina hale. you all know how much i love her. i just wish the quality of the photograph was a little bit better. but i do love the flower in her hair and her clever little smile. good-night, georgina. i love you.

sweet miss georgina

as far as i know, i haven't posted this shot yet. yes, its my angel miss georgina hale. my guess it was taken sometime in the mid-to-late 1970's. theoretically, i'm not into blondes... but georgina surpasses all classifications. she is more platinum than blonde. she is more genius than cheesecake. she's a brilliant actress with beauty almost too great to chart. if you haven't seen her in ken russell's 'the devils' or in russell's 'mahler,' then you are missing the work of one of the greatest english actresses in my lifetime. in my opinion she is every bit as good as judi dench or either redgrave. she is a jewel. georgina, you have my undying devotion. i'd love to hear from you sometime.

georgina squared

when i type i always make a 'tile' which i use to mark each page by numbers. each note gets its own icon, a maximum of ten pages to a note. those ten-page batches mark chapters. some are less, but usually no less than seven pages, single-spaced. the next chapter will bear this cool cut of miss georgina hale in 'mahler.' there was a bit of hand-tinting involved in the colors. just beautiful.

take a bow

here's a bookmark i made a long time ago. i think i was at jean-lucien's place when i put it together... and i remember it was before they'd moved their furniture around. the shot of morrissey on the top is taken from a dreamy still shot from the somewhat-official video for the infectuous smiths song 'sheila take a bow.' for those of you who've never heard it, do yourself a favor and dig up that song. its a pristine example of perfect english pop. the hazy female face in the center is none other than my own darling georgina hale from the ken russell masterpiece 'mahler.' i think it makes a groovy bookmark. so print it out, laminate it, and read something hot or scary. or maybe a MAD digest, they're always great.
