sigh

i'm feeling a little blue and introspective tonight... more detached than lonely, more impatient than bored, still... my inspiration seems at rest. but i wanted to mark the day somehow. i like this shot of ian holm as science officer ash, looking out at space, by himself. good night everyone. i love you.

sweet misteri

here's the back cover, i think... to one of my mate jean-lucien's notebooks. i wish i could accurately cite the month and the year, but we've done so many at this point, i regretfully cannot. but it just goes to illustrate the devotion jean-lucien has to his art. not even the plain black cover of a marbled notebook is safe from his glue and wild inspiration. the main image is the cover to a foreign magazine, i think, which features the david bowie sci-fi film 'the man who fell to earth.' i get the feeling the mag was some sort of foreign 'fangoria.' in any case, i dig it. i love the way these covers tend to acquire nicks and scrapes and accidental characteristics after years of loving use. this one just strikes me as particularly groovy-and-spooky. dig it.

honeybook

here's an example of one of our handwritten notebooks i wrote and decorated myself. and i freely admit, this shows all the signs of not knowing when to stop. i really didn't need the overhead collage banner or the faceted pink square georgina cabochon. all the rest alone would have been plenty. and the title was-is splendid enough. the main image is the lovely darling miss georgina hale as alma mahler from the ken russell film 'mahler.' but i just got carried away with the sugar-shaker, so to speak. still, i wanted to show it to you. it still beats the hell out of all those handwritten journals with plain 'no frills' covers. which i don't understand. i mean, even if its just for your physics notes or sketchy poems, why not slap a groovy picture on it? i mean, you're going to have to look at it. and a groovy notebook is also a great conversation starter, whether you're in the market for that sort of thing or not. in any case, dig it, this notebook of mine, which is at least a year or more old. click to enlarge, it gets really big... maybe too big... ( if there is such a thing. )

sweet gina

i really don't feel inspired to post very much tonight, but i wanted to mark my place, so here's a rare shot of miss georgina hale. you all know how much i love her. i just wish the quality of the photograph was a little bit better. but i do love the flower in her hair and her clever little smile. good-night, georgina. i love you.

r.e.m. - the voice of harold : audio

"...west columbia, south carolina... the finest sound available anywhere..."

rope

here's an odd shot taken from the adam ant video 'stand and deliver,' which may be his best. the song is hot, the video successfully straddles the line between serious and playful, and the band were at the height of their game. from the first image of the adam drawing pistols in an highwayman ambush, to the ending sequence of adam's pirate deliverance from the hangman's noose, the video works. i daresay it even holds up as quite delightful more than 20 years later. hey, it makes me want to roll it now! i don't think i'll get any argument when i say that adam has never looked better. i like the 'taken from the tv screen' quality this particular shot has. i didn't take the shot myself, and i don't remember where i found it, but i did trick the colors and add the jolly roger in the upper right hand corner. groovy.

giggle-wise

i just watched 90% of the billy wilder classic film 'the apartment' on friday night. it may sound corny, but its truly a movie that's got it all. it manages to be serious, hilarious, risque, realistic, raw, ribald, romantic, and even sociologically relevant, all at the same time. it won best picture that year. shirley maclaine is just perfect in the role of fran kubelik. (i have no idea if i spelled that right; screenplay-wise) and jack lemmon is like, multifaceted perfection. it had been so long since the last time i'd seen it, that i had forgotten a lot about the way it ends. its very close to being a faultless film.

juste sleeping

ahhh, the one and only micky dolenz, ladies and gentlemen. this is a still frame taken from the 'monkees on tour' episode. micky 'the micker' looks so groovy and cool half-asleep in the lap of longtime girlfriend samantha juste. she was a cutie. i always thought they made a swinging couple. i love guys when they sleep. like dogs with clothes on, they're probably dreaming about fast cars, hot food, cold beer, and boobies. and hey, who can blame them? i sure don't. anyway, i love the rich soft film grain in this shot. i tweaked the color just a little, but other than that, i just cropped it and left it alone. so cool.

virgo

apparently this is some kind of mapping of the virgo constellation. i like the added circles around the key stars. i think i read somewhere that its supposed to resemble a young girl's face. i like it. i've tried to like, look up at the sky and pick it out for myself, but i haven't been able to nail it down out here yet. i may not post much more tonight. sundays sort of leave me melancholy... but hey, i guess its officially monday, after-midnight-wise.

faded summer

saturday night, sunday morning. i don't really 'feel the zeal' to post very much tonight, but i wanted to mark my place. so here's a slice of notebook art i put together a long time ago from some screen shots, hand inking, and some color jean-lucien sent me. its gorgeous. hopefully i'll have more tommorrow. love. i'll allow judy (below) to take us to church. amen.
