ronan and georgina

man, i still feel a little shagged-out from pulling an oscar-related 'all-nighter' last night. so i don't have a whole lot to post. haven't found time to go on a serious pearl-dive recently. plus, i have to cook again on wednesday. i'm thinking about making quesadillas and rice. so um, yeah, just to hold my place i'm posting another little slice of notebook art, from like, at least two years ago. (man, has it been that long?) like, i don't have the specific journal in front of me right now, but if i did, i'm pretty sure the date would be around '06. so um, who do we have here? on the right, its the delightful ronan vibert as wilmot pershaw from his one episode of 'jeeves and wooster.' (the episode is officially called 'jeeves sets sail,' in case anyone is interested.) so, yeah, there's ronan, and some deep fruit-punchy colors... the shot of ronan is from a screen capture jean-lucien took a long time ago. and on the right, is a minaturized scan of one of my journal covers. the main image is georgina hale from 'mahler.' the little phrase was randomly cut out of a science book... maybe about gemstones or something. so dig it, and hopefully i'll have more for you soon. o is for overlooked

yes, one of the elements that inspired me to
explore
'planetcool,' was the desire to present, promote, and praise talents that don't get their share of the spotlight. one such talent is the actor ronan vibert. i've mentioned him before, but i think he's really good, so here comes the spotlight again. from 'jeeves and wooster' to 'the shadow of the vampire,' to 'lara croft,' i've seen enough of his work to realize he's an unsung gem. he's versatile enough to play a 'champagne villian' in any action movie... he's handsome enough to be a romantic lead, and judging by this shot from the 1999 bbc production of 'the scarlet pimpernel,' he can handle serious 'history' and costume parts, too. he played the wicked and unscrupulous robespierre. i wasn't able to find a shot from the exact chapter i wanted; (i wanted him in a slightly different wig...) but what the hell, he has timeless handsome features, a light, interesting english voice, and the zeal to make faces and take risks when the part calls for it. you can see him in the 'jeeves and wooster' episode 'bertie sets sail,' and also as the cameraman wolfgang muller in the brilliant, dark, and often hilarious 'the shadow of the vampire.'

groovy 72

yes, more notebook art from the endless pages of jean-lucien. this one was from a long time ago, but it still holds up in the 'groovy' category. from left to right we have: the lusty handsome morrissey, the spunky and vivacious julie newmar, and in between them, a tiny spot of ronan vibert. i love the cool colors in this one. click to enlarge.

honeybook

here's an example of one of our handwritten notebooks i wrote and decorated myself. and i freely admit, this shows all the signs of not knowing when to stop. i really didn't need the overhead collage banner or the faceted pink square georgina cabochon. all the rest alone would have been plenty. and the title was-is splendid enough. the main image is the lovely darling miss georgina hale as alma mahler from the ken russell film 'mahler.' but i just got carried away with the sugar-shaker, so to speak. still, i wanted to show it to you. it still beats the hell out of all those handwritten journals with plain 'no frills' covers. which i don't understand. i mean, even if its just for your physics notes or sketchy poems, why not slap a groovy picture on it? i mean, you're going to have to look at it. and a groovy notebook is also a great conversation starter, whether you're in the market for that sort of thing or not. in any case, dig it, this notebook of mine, which is at least a year or more old. click to enlarge, it gets really big... maybe too big... ( if there is such a thing. )

denizens of darkness

wow... this is an older one. i used to keep all my text, hand-written, in those marbled mead notebooks. double-spaced. by hand. every cover decorated. every page decorated. here is an older one jean-lucien recently scanned for me. there's some slight water damage on ronan vibert's face, (that's ronan vibert as the star in the center with the goggles) but i consider slight damage like that more like, battle scars. the spot in the lens is a miniature of a still from some terry gilliam animation. i cut the phrase out of a time-life book on ocean exploration or something. the medallion stars at the top are; left to right... john-rhys meyers from 'velvet goldmine,' ; william s. burroughs, ronan vibert from 'jeeves and wooster,' ; ronan vibert from the bbc's 'the scarlet pimpernel,' ; i think that guy in black and white is harry thaw... the father of evelyn nesbit's baby, and finally, twiggy. i remember gluing all of it down. it seems like a long time ago. click-to-really-enlarge.

bitten

ahhh, anything goes tonight, right? so jean-lucien will recognize i'm going wayyyy back for this one. yes, its a shot of ronan vibert from the cult hit 'the shadow of the vampire,' in his stunning role as the tormented photographer wolf muller. the devotion to his craft can clearly be seen as he trembles on the ground with a little pale make-up on his face. pardon me for being sarcastic, i mean, i love ronan vibert as much as the next guy, but his acting in this flick seems to range from 'slight smirking' to 'pale trembling.' then he sort of disappears. i think we're supposed to assume john malkovich fed him to willen dafoe. then cary elwes shows up to mystify us further with his weird smiles and breathless, forced german accent. still, its a wonderful film, you should check it out.

hmmm?

i've been away for about a week. i was out of town on pressing matters of business... and the heart. so, after rolling around with my One True Love for a few nights, i'm ready to get back to the wild elusive publication that IS planetcool! sigh. and i'm starting it off with this lovely shot of a younger ronan vibert. i think this is from some british film about some guy and a violin...? whatever. he's handsome and smooth. hey, its ronan vibert! (mmm, can you tell i'm a little out of practice with this?)

ronan in profile

yeah, its 'can you tell i don't care?' night. sadly, this gorgeous shot of ronan vibert in roman costume deserves a somewhat higher honor. its from some movie i couldn't name if you let cousin kevin torture me for a couple of hours. but what a profile, am i right students? what a stern expression, what a gorgeous nose. he's one of those actors i saw after i'd already seen him. i mean i'd seen him in one role, but it took another to really strike me. he's been in things such as 'jeeves and wooster,' 'mrs. bradley mysteries,' the first 'tomb raider,' 'shadow of the vampire,' 'the cat's meow,' and the bbc version of 'the scarlet pimpernel.' he truly is gorgeous, and if you ask me, he shines in character parts.

treason

here is another groovy slice of notebook art i scanned from one of our notebooks. that's ronan vibert on the left, and a piece of a michael nesmith album on the right. ('tantamount to treason') the song 'bonaparte's retreat' is a dreamy waltz with a comfortable southern accent. (actually, i'm not sure if that track is on that particular album...forgive me for not checking.) i suppose i should mention that his solo stuff, and all the stuff with 'the first national band' is marvelous and well worth checking out. i don't think i remember which movie the ronan vibert shot was taken from. it seems like such a long time ago. in any case, dig it.

vibert slide

here's a slide i made mmm, well over a year ago. the featured handsome bloke in the center is the multi-talented and enigmatic (?) mr. ronan vibert. i think this still is from a 'mrs. bradley mysteries' episode with diana rigg. i can't remember if he was like, 'the killer' or not, but i loved that look on him. a far cry from his shy-to-wild turn as Wilmot in the Jeeves and Wooster series. he can also be seen in the underrated 'the shadow of the vampire,' with john malkovitch and cary elwes. i think if you look close at this slide, you can see a hazy pink morrissey and a green, veiled georgina hale.

love gustav

here is a strip of a notebook decoration i did ...wow, it had to be over a year ago. but i needed something orange and pink, so here it is. the blokes featured are eddie izzard, (in the cap, from 'the shadow of the vampire,') and his co-star from 'shadow,' mr. ronan vibert. (smoking.) so i guess that takes care of my nightly 'person smoking' feature. its lovely. when i wrote longhand, i decorated every page. yes i did. (click to enlarge.)

vampire art

and yet, here is another notebook banner. it features ronan vibert, two ways! man, i must be sitting on literally hundreds of these, and they're so groovy! i love the shades of pink we manage to come up with, and god bless ronan vibert.

bluefish

hey, i actually made this one. i remember i wasn't even trying to like, 'compose,' it just sort of happened as i was shuffling pictures around in the lid of a shoebox. i thought the shade of blue was just right... its amazing, really, how many hundreds of shades of blue there are. but anyway, by the time i was finished, i realized i liked it, so i kept it. and i still like it. and up until this point, only four people have seen it. keen eyes might recognize ronan vibert, (twice) and kate bush. (click to enlarge.)

as the flames rose...

...to ronan's nose. ronan vibert in roman drag. slathered in grape candy flavor. with hard rock sugar. it makes a hell of a notebook banner. so dig it.

ronan in my notebook

this slide represents the first appearance of the lovely ronan vibert in this venture so far. the original was a handmade heading to a page of my longhand journal. when i wrote in the marbled books, i used scissors, glue, pictures, and black and colored inks to embellish each and every page... hundreds of pages a book, hundreds of books so far.
