mmm, nick

ahhh, sweet nick rhodes. what a face. all the time i was a teenager, and hopelessly in love with nick rhodes, i knew there were countless pictures of him and the rest of the duran guys that i thought i'd never see. and now, thanks to the magic of the computer age, i am able to see so much hot duran deliciousness. like this shot of glam nick rhodes.

original nick

i straight-up love this shot of nick rhodes. it was one of the very first photos of nick i had on my wall as a young teenage girl. i think its fair to say that when i fell in love with nick rhodes, it was love at first sight. although, he did look so much like a girl in shots like this, then i've often questioned myself since then; ...was i really harboring repressed lesbian feelings? or did i just subconciously want the best of both worlds? like, i adored and admired the beauty of glamorous girls, but i wanted the sexual physicality of men. was it because i was subconciously afraid of most men, and felt safer with men of a gentler nature and a slighter frame? or maybe it was just because nick rhodes was so fucking cool...! he was cool then, and he's still cool now. but yeah, i remember carrying this exact photograph with me around griffin middle school... defending him to all the girls who were so quick to call him a 'fag' or a 'gaylord,' on account of his make-up and hair. (i think it should be noted that a lot of these same girls voiced their 'redneck homophobe' vote for vince neil of motley crue. mmm, who's wearing a lot of make-up...?? mmm, not too much, whoa-ho-ho!! ) anyway, silliness aside, dig this elegant and glamorous shot of nick rhodes. he IS duran duran. nick on film

yeah, i think i mentioned a couple of nights ago that i threw in my duran duran dvd to get some screen captures from. and this is one of them. here we see the genius lad, mr. nick rhodes, using a 'switch-comb' to fluff up those scarlet locks. i've never stopped loving nick rhodes. he takes being part of duran duran very seriously. and i just love that, because i think duran duran are a very serious part of pop music history. he's an extremely bright man, a talented musician, and above all... a tireless artist. and he's cute, too. so, here's to the glorious 'total package' that IS mr. nick rhodes. hey, boys on film... am i right, girls...? and its so decadent with that silver fur hanging on in the background. nick rhodes...backstage!

yes, i just stumbled upon this gem whilst i was digging around tonight. and i just decided to post it, just for kicks! it appears to be a shot of the very talented and serious nick rhodes... and judging from the color of his hair and stuff, i'd have to say its getting close to the late 80's... possibly arcadia-era. and from the looks of it, he's backstage, draped in all different crazy manifestations of 'fan love.' i see some kind of linen on his lap with strawberries on it. apparently some fan read somewhere that strawberries were his 'favorite food.' i know, i read that same fan magazine, too. and um, he's got some kind of cellophane-wrapped flower in his mouth. and a damn rug on his head, and some kind of fuzzy cartoon guy hangin' on... but i like this picture because it seems to prove something i've suspected about my darling nick all along... he has a sense of humor. and talent. and those slinky-hot lovely, girlish good looks. so rock on, nick... you were my first 'fave,' and you still have a special place in the 'fan lobe' of my teenaged brain.

nick rhodes...scared or cold?

okay, this is a shot clearly from the late 1984 publicity phase of the duran duran history. it was around the same time they released the 'wild boys' video, as is evidenced by the weirdo angular graphics and stone-resembling background all their stuff had in common around that time. i don't know for a fact, but i would almost bet money this picture was part of some 'wild-boys'-related promotional picture-sleeve something or other. i mean, i'm pretty sure i didn't own it, because i'm not real familiar with this photo. but i would bet each duran had their own 'shot' in whatever imported product it was. but hey, this shot is all about nick. and i'm trying to decide... is he scared of soemthing? or is he just very cold? judging by the fact that he's on some roof with his bulky girls' coat wrapped tightly around him, i'm guessing he's probably just cold. he looks so much like a chick from an american high school at that time. like, even molly ringwald in 'sixteen candles' looked slightly more like she could kick your ass. hey, don't get me wrong, i love nick, and totally respect his artistic ways. but this particular photo is 'very hilarious.'

new old duran duran horserace

hey, here we go again... once again, you must choose! but choose wisely. (mmm, who am i...? the old knight at the end of 'last crusade?' all of the sudden?) okay, so we're not picking out a holy grail, but we are trying to decide who has the most 'righteous' good looks in this mid-80's pin up of simon and the rest of the duran lads. first of all, let me say that this particular photo shoot was very familiar to me. like, it is distinctive because of that tacky-ass red white and blue smeared paint background. i know i must have encountered at least a dozen slightly different shots from different publications, but all with the same ugly wall, the same clothes, and the same 'standing order.' i'm sure this happened with other bands. like, i'm sure lucynell could tell me the same kind of thing about sting and the police boys in almost-identical poses on the same like, military airstrip or something. but, all that aside... we need to choose a winner here. so um, let's see... as usual, can we eliminate vom-faces andy and roger? umm, yes. yes we can. andy looks hung over, and roger looks cold. so that leaves the middle three once again. simon loses some points right away because he looks like he's in the middle of saying something, which is almost never a good look on anyone. and i have to dock nick some points, because he can't even be bothered to look at the camera. (actually, maybe we should give him some credit for that... like, for being 'too cool' for the photoshoot.) and so that leaves john. you know its sad when john can look like a dykey high school girl named melissa who wants to kick your ass after gym class, and still beat out his buddies for the 'best looking' crown. so its nigel john taylor once again. congratulations john. you made it. duran glam

here's a duran horserace-made-a-bit-easier... that's because uggos andy and roger aren't even in the picture. so, from left to right, we have, of course; mr. nicholas james bates-rhodes, mr. simon john charles le bon, and mr. nigel john taylor. so, who wins? unfortunately, i think we can dismiss nick right away. he looks like falling asleep is 'job one.' and simon, well... i never did care for that spiky-on-purpose bleach-tipped haystack look. i mean, he looks happy and all, but still. so, facially, i guess the honors go to sleek and lanky john-john. at least he's like, fully awake, you know? and he's also not trying too hard to be hot; like he's just letting his popstar good looks speak for themselves. so, john wins... but before i move on, i've got to say one thing: what is UP with the 'theme' of their stage clothing? its like, ill-hewn band uniforms meet 'club clothes.' not their best look, if you want my opinion. and the togs don't even look like, particularly well-made, sewing-wise. so yeah, john wins. and you can expect yet another tiger race here on the planet sometime soon. (click to enlarge, somewhat)

hot pink nick

wow... i'm sure there was a time in my teenage life where i dreamed about a moment such as the one depicted here: getting to meet nick rhodes. (!) here he is in ther earlier part of the 80's, judging by his barbie-colored headband. you may tease, but i think he totally 'pulled it off.' i mean, i don't hear anybody cutting down jack sparrow for wearing a headband... i think nick was just ahead of his 'new romantic' time. and he's such a reasonable gentleman. wicked smart, as they say up here in the american northeast. that dotted pink scarf suits him, and makes me want to 'teen' swoon. (and i also think its funny that the vertical-lined building he happens to be standing in front of looks very '80's-photo-shoot,' ... although i'm sure that was purely coincidental.) i love nick. or should i say '...i still love nick.'

nick smokes

okay, this site has been giving me problems for the last few minutes, so i don't know how intricate this entry will be. but anyway, last night i was watching the 80's duran duran tour documentary 'sing blue silver.' and since it was rolling, i decided i should try to get some shots from it... but man, that was some of the laziest, slowest, grainiest, worst film-slash-videotape stock i've ever worked with. its like, every bit as bad as 'evil under the sun.' i mean, it was the haziest, shallowest film i've had the displeasure of wrestling with for quite some time. but i DID manage to get this shot of the young nickety-rhodes, at a radio interview, priss-dragging on what looked like a camel... but the film stock was so poor i really couldn't tell. it did have a brown filter area. he's a cutie, am i right folks? and he's known to have a bitchy side too. (...nick rhodes? how can that be?) anyway, let me just see if this post sticks, and if it does, maybe i'll post something else... after i have MY evil Camel-on-the-deck-under-the-stars.

n is for nick rhodes, seriously

so, after you read the entry below, you'll realize why i had to dig-up-and-post a cool, flattering, pretty shot of the genius that IS mr. nick rhodes. this shot was taken in 1987, in the very cool 'notorious' era. hey, how cool was that song 'meet el presidente?' hey, i might have to post that one if i can find a good version. i think he looks great here. i mean, the fringed sleeves are quite 'dated,' but i can't bag on it too hard; i owned-and-wore a red suede fringed jacket around that time. but even with the over-posing and the jacket and the white-bleached bangs, he still comes off looking very cool. and facially in this shot, i can see why i was in love with him then, and now. and he's got a great sense of humor. have you ever looked up a video called 'nick's stolen moments' on youtube? its basically a home video nick took of himself over like, a week of being nick rhodes. he comes off very playful and bright. i hope its still 'up,' you know, if you wanna take a look at it. ahhh, my sweet nick rhodes... sigh.

n is for nick rhodes, with apologies

okay, i realize i'm going to have to find a dazzling shot of mr. nick rhodes to make up for the fact that i posted this one. if i had to guess, i'd say it was taken sometime around 1986. i totally mean no disrespect. not only do i firmly believe nick rhodes is a beautiful human being, physically, i also think he is a blazingly talented individual, a visionary musician and artist, and he takes his craft of quality inventive pop very seriously. and make no mistake, i take him very seriously. in many ways, he IS duran duran. but i just couldn't resist posting this. i think it speaks for itself. yikes.

duran duran - friends of mine : video

here is some magnificent live footage of duran duran in 1982 at the hammersmith odeon. the sound and film quality are exceptional. all the boys look great. its just the sort of video that i knew was floating around out there somewhere way back when i first fell in love with them, back when i was only afforded scattered pictures and video due to living overseas in a time of rare and very limited media. even if i had been a rich girl back then, i still might not have been able to 'get my hands' on such footage... but now, i have almost no cash to my name, and i can sink my teeth into it along all the rest of elite and common alike. really, exceptional film and sound. great stuff.

happy birthday nick

yes, its june 8th, the birthday of the one and only mr. nick rhodes. as many of you may know, he was one of the founding members of Duran Duran, and has always been my unofficial favorite. i mean, of course, there were times when i found Simon sexier, and there have been some times where John has been better looking, but ever since 1983 or so, Nick Rhodes has been my fave. it was a picture of him in a fan magazine that struck me with such teenage 'love at first sight' that i was inclined to 'get into' Duran Duran. they have always been on the list of my all-time favorite bands, and their music and videos have almost 100% stood the test of time. nick is a wild genius, so curious about all aspects of music and art. and he seems like a guy who's doing what he loves, and still loves it. and i still love him. this is a picture from quite a few years ago... 2000, maybe? anyway, he's gorgeous, bright, talented, funny, and serious about turning out high quality work. if my math is right, he's 46 today. so here's to you, nick rhodes. happy birthday. i love you.

pretty looking rhodes

tonight's featured smoker is the one and only multi-talented mr. nick rhodes. this shot was obviously taken sometime around the 'rio' album. he was so lovely then. i mean, look at those lips... that bone structure! sigh. even after all this time, he makes me sigh. and he's smart, too. i love the way he takes his work seriously. sure, he only plays and writes pop songs, but they're some of the finest and most popular pop songs of our era. i love the 'medazzaland' album, and his spoken-word 'vocals' on the title track. he's really a synthesizer genius, and always manages to look great. plus, he looks happy. i get the feeling he's a man who's lucky enough to have made a handsome living doing what he always wanted to do. kisses, nick. you're the best.

hot trash

don't get me wrong, this slide my partner made is very far from being trash. but hey, nick rhodes smoking a cigarette up there looks kind of trashy. chaz and pherba doing their hippy thing in the center is kind of hot, and the police-shades-wearing miss sylvie vartan on the right is sort of sexy-trashy as she rehearses her hot semi-french mid-1970's act. its gorgeously red, flashy, splashy, trashy, and i love it. if you to click-to-enlarge you can even spot the fitting caption, 'i brake for trash.' a hot slice of notebook art. i love it.

edifice

here is a cool and tangerine-flavored notebook detail made a long time ago by jean-lucien. i suppose i should say it was 'orange' -flavored. like, the bloke on the bottom is malcolm macdowall from 'a clockwork orange,' and the bloke on the top is none other than nick rhodes. it works well. i think its glinting and lovely.

nick rhodes

in retrospect, i think this may have been THE picture that started it all.

the one and only Nick Rhodes.

carolina landscapes out the middleschool window were not

tranquil and alluring enough to rip our gazes away from the

mysterious Face that IS Nick Rhodes.
