victoria

ladies and gentlemen, may i present the lovely and talented miss victoria russell. yes, she's the hauntingly beautiful daughter of ken russell. here she is portraying the faithful sally simpson in daddy's stellar production of 'tommy.' she plays the devoted fan who encountered a mean twish of fate after standing against her father's religion and her mother's plain wishes. i think she's beautiful, and does a neat job of making the Fable of the Smitten come to life. i often wonder what she's doing now. (raising a family, if i had to make a bet.) there was a time however, when she cheered in purple satin pants and a silver sequined cap, risking convention and everything else, to touch the hand of the man who turned her on.

watercolors

this afternoon jean-lucien sent me some lovely scans from old books, and amongst them was this shot i hope he doesn't mind i published. i love it, although its been technically damaged. it began as a collage, but something was spilled on it before it could be scanned, hence, the distortion and bleeding. i thought this unfortunate accident added as much to the image as it subtracted from it. it didn't make it neccessarily better or worse, but it did make it different. in the words of an immortal commercial artist: '...i liked it, so i used it...' i just hope it passes jean-lucien's approval.

starry sally as herself

i snagged this cool shot from ken russell's 'tommy' just to see if i could coax the tricky color out of it. i think it turned out well. this is the lovestruck sally simpson getting ready for the big concert. her vignette is a cool and crucial facet in pete townshend's well-paced and expertly crafted libretto. and hey, the song is great!! mmm, can you tell i'm tired tonight or what? sigh... so um, dig it.

sally

groupies are interesting girls. i believe they're a cosmic necessity. they make sure the band gets to bed at a decent hour. and makes sure they're tired enough to sleep. every girl should have one or two groupie moments in her life, if she's lucky enough to do so. just make sure you pick a worthy performer, bring a friend, and for god's sake, make sure you're not scheduled to go into work in the morning.
