yes, lately i've been rolling 'sgt. pepper' kind of on an endless loop. hey, i love that beatle-beegees sound! so, jean-lucien has the dvd, and he popped it in a couple of nights ago to get some great shots. here we see the incomparable paul nicholas as the 'greedy dougie shears,' all too ready to sign the 'big deal' recording contract with the slightly sleazy record exec, BD... played quite cooly by horror actor donald pleasance. (hey, here's one of almadora's secrets; she thinks mr. pleasance was really quite dashing and handsome in his day... in films like 'the great escape' and 'escape to witch mountain,' his groovy sinister ways stole the show) but hey, here he found a rock-opera musical escape in robert stigwood's flashy beatle-related production. hey, he 'wants them' to sign on the dotted line, and thus become overnight superstars. i often wonder why paul nicholas was never more famous than he managed to get. nobody has more energy and zeal with a part. few people have the same fervor and devotion when he gets the opportunity to sink his big white teeth into a role. so dig it, and i hope this won't be the only thing i post tonight.
