party

wow, does this look like a cool party or what? i don't remember where i found this shot, but just look at who's in attendance! i think somewhere that night, coolness was being sucked from countless parties over the world to like, feed the coolness of the scene pictured here. actually, having been to my share of 'afterparties' myself, i know they can actually kind of thud, if you know what i mean. still, it would've been something to be there.

all the college money spent

...see no future, pay no rent.

nowhere to go

ohhh, that magic feeling.
i had to re-post this, and i'm not sure i rememebr what i said about it, but i'm pretty sure i praised the wild and often-maligned robert stigwood flick, 'sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band.' it delivers, on fine pop hits, lots of girls in shiny clothing, weird cameos, and almost no dialogue. i kind of stand by the bee-gees handling of the beatle songs... you have to admit, they could've been worse. yeah, i stand by this film. its flash and fast and a lot of fun. and this number, with paul nicholas and a diane-can't-remember-her-last-name is one of the inarguable highlights. dig it.

aw, schulz

(i wouldn't stop for a million bucks)
...sometimes only snoopy will do. i wish more people knew more of his older work. it was so deft and keen and biting. and the drawings were wispy and pretty yet sparing and expressive. i remember all those dog-eared volumes we stumbled across in morganton, north carolina. it was a blessing, believe me.

roman 1974

this is roman polanski in denim.
very nice.

piano

this one is almost two years old, too. but i love it. its dreamy and sound. i love the overweight rafe and all the sky blue and pink. there's not much deep meaning, but its pretty.

dial-a-story

i love this photograph of a boy and girl from the 1970's.

i have absolutely no idea where it came from, but i love it.

i lived it, somehow.

tranquility.

i love it.

morning gory

i can't remember how old i was when i saw my first copy of 'fangoria.' needless to say, i was stunned into silence, but couldn't look away. curious and precocious, i endured all the blood and clear slickness. i can say this for a fact: my first look at Penthouse gave me far fewer nightmares. still, my tomboy spirit digs the daring of 'fangoria,' and i cannot overlook the impact it had on my mind at the time. thank you, cousin... if it hadn't been for you, i don't know if i would ever have seen it.

audio breakfast: joni mitchell - 'harry's house: centerpiece'

this is one of my favorite songs. she manages to cram all the restrictions and wild repressed itchings of blume's 'wifey' into a nine west shoebox.

harry's house

i really like this picture of actor harry dean stanton. i love the kitchen, i love the cat, and i love how genuinely happy and fresh from the shower harry looks. i like the fact that, even moist and in a white robe, he obviously has so much real affection for the cat that he's completely unconcerned with 'fur transfer.' this picture just makes me feel... i don't know... married.

sweet apple jam

this one is pretty old... a few years. it was a journal embellishment jean-lucien put together. but i love the wild 'midnight' juxtaposition of the 'peace child' beatles and tim-curry-as-frank. it shouldn't work so well, but it does, you know? in any case, i've always liked the recklessness and fun of this piece. i almost get a halloween candy taste in my mouth when i dig on it. and george wins.

ash kisser

yeah, its a juvenile joke, i know... but i'd kiss the lovely science officer ash anywhere. even on the ship. in this scene, he's got so much going on. the way his eyes go all coy after he says, '...dallas, it has to go back,' just melts me. he's so devious, so like, cunning and sexy... and somehow he manages not to get blood spatter on his outfit despite being like, right there when Kane's chest explodes. i don't think he really took time out to do laundry. god, he's cute. sexy-in-space.

everybody loved stacks

...stacks of books, that is. so, jean-lucien sent me this shot a long time ago. i love it. having worked in a bookstore and a library, i just love places like this. the older and fuller with books, the better. i'm sure some girls imagine being romantically kissed in like, gondolas or under the eiffel tower, but id rather be backed up against the stacks and kissed in a place like this. i even like the somewhat dusty smell of old paper and all that romantic stuff. its a great shot.

happy birthday rik

i'm still not feeling so hot, but i noticed earlier today that it was rik mayall's 50th birthday, so even if this is my only entry, i just wanted to give the legendary mr. mayall a big wet dangerous birthday kiss. what can i say about rik? i used to think i first saw him in 'the young ones' in 1986, but i've since realized i'd seen 'an american werewolf in london' before then. still, it was rik the nasty sociology student that stole my heart. so tonight, i celebrate the countless laughs i owe to the one and only rik mayall. one of my favorite 'dangerous brothers' skits is featured below.

dangerous

dangerous crocodile snogging!

tape it

you need a blank tape? here, tape over this man...its nothing but the top 21 countdown.

practice

tonight's featured smoker is ian holm. i'm tired, so hopefully it will be enough to say that i don't remember what play he was rehearsing, but i couldn't wait to post this lusty, hazy shot of this (mostly) welsh gentleman, smoking in some unknown room, going through some unknown lines, wondering about god-knows-what. perhaps he was worried about keeping the heat on at his flat. perhaps he was comtemplating how he could best get away with making one of the wardrobe mistresses. perhaps he was only thinking of how he could craft his role to get the lion's share of the applause. i don't know. all i know is i've never seen a face like that of ian holm. and i wonder aimlessly and endlessly about the infinite variations of his preferences and habits. hey, maybe he loves scooby-doo, what do i know?

jealous

here is some lush notebook art from my partner. i like the idea behind it. just when you think you've slain that green-eyed monster, he returns, alive and well and every bit as sick and full of foul magic as he has been for centuries. i acknowledge mine may be a cynical position, but lately i keep my heart under lock and key. jealousy is like childbirth. you never remember how bad it hurts until you feel it the next time. perhaps i have an unfair advantage; i was born in love. but i can't help that any more than i can help having blue eyes. as for romantic love? well, its invariably handcuffed to jealousy, and i mean it when i say you can keep it. i'd almost rather be seasick than jealous. only being thirsty is worse.

joni mitchell : coyote

i ate the lotus

the lotus eaters were found in homer's 'the odyssey.' they were nymphs, i think...that bewitched ulysses and fed him lotus petals, which caused him and his crew to hallucinate or something. ( you'll have to cut me some slack on the specifics; i studied it in seventh grade.... yeah, i know, that's no excuse. ) in any case, this punchy strip of notebook art owes just as much to the r.e.m. song as it does to homer. so drink it in.
