this one is kind of for my mother. she made the best homemade biscuits i've ever had. we used to watch as she'd create the dough out of what sort of seemed like thin air, only vaguely consulting a recipe. there was flour and milk and buttermilk and shortening out. she'd knead the dough with her elegant long hands, flatten it on with a wooden rolling pin on a ceramic cutting board decorated with wispy brown seashells, then cut the plump circles with the floured end of a glass. she never... and i mean never, screwed them up. the lovely girl in this vintage ad even looks a bit like her. she could be so wonderful... like cinderella. miss america. i love her so much.
