posters!

hey, i'm still not feeling real inspired tonight. i mean, i'm in a good mood and all, just not feeling those creative juices we often hear so much about. but i thought i'd use a little grid of psychedelic posters to mark my place and say that i love you all in very funky, intense ways. hopefully i'll feel more 'with it' tomorrow.

peace and love to you all.

a man and his kitten

man, i've been busy tonight. i had to christen a new notebook, and do my jive-ass laundry and all that, so i don't think i'm gonna get much posted tonight. but i thank you all for your kind attention lately. and so, um, until i get some more stuff on the ball, content yourself with this cool shot of oliver reed and a very adorable kitten!

hit me

yeah, its late, and i'm getting tired. and i'm supposed to do my crazy laundry in the morning. hey, life goes on, right? okay, so here's hoping you'll find something to dig about this old cover for star hits magazine. i don't think i can read the date on it, but judging from the pop-heads featured, i'd guess it was early-to-mid 1986. but even that doesn't explain why howard jones is on the cover. i wish the picture quality was a little bit silkier, but hey, i work with what i've got. let me zoom in... okay, it says something about a howard jones contest? you get to interview him for 'star hits?' man, i pass. like, i only have 'less than three' questions for him. then at the top it says something about the monkees, (which indicates to me that it was 86'-at-the-least, considering that was the summer MTV re-ran the classic series.) and i also see them mentioning one of duran duran's best albums, 'notorious.' (including great songs like 'skin trade,' 'meet el presidente,' and 'a matter of feeling.' and i think 'serious?') honestly, its a great record that still 'holds up.' then, if you look close, over howard's right shoulder, you can see something about madonna meeting billy idol. (which is wild, because i don't even think 'madge' would willingly breathe the same air as billy idol these days. ) but man, at the time, you know there was nothing like 'star hits.' am i right, lovers?

a man and his sandwich

hey, i hope some of you out there will think this shot is as hilarious as i think it is. let's see, we've got davy 'the wave' jones, shirtless, with his underwear waistband very much showing, standing at some kind of kitchen counter-type situation, chowing downwardly on what i can only guess is a self-made, munchies-induced sandwidge. (intentional spelling.) actually, on a semi-serious note, i think this shot sort of epitomizes what i imagine would 'suck-about-fame.' like, not even being able to make a crappy sandwich without someone from 'tiger beat' popping a damn flash bulb in your face. like, no matter what you're caught doing, you're compelled to play-it-off-like-it-was-cool. like, hey, '...i stubbed my toe real hard on the hotel coffee table... i'm sure glad someone was here to like, immortalize 'the moment,' namely my moment of shame-and-pain.' sigh. yeah, i used to think i wanted to be famous when i was like, 14... but i'm serrriously glad that never happened. sometimes, if you lose you're anonymity, you can never get it back. and personally, i'd rather have an invisibility cloak than a cover shot on 'People' magazine.

morrissey on the cover

i started a new notebook tonight. well, i decorated the cover. unfortunately, i'm not able to scan it, so just to commemorate the creative vibe, i'm posting this great large slide jean-lucien used for one of his covers many, many months ago. it features a cool close-up of morrissey on stage, in blue, on the left. he used a still from the 'who put the m in manchester?' dvd. and to the right, we've got michael nesmith, terry jones (in semi-drag) and a dash of john-rhys myers in orange, near the bottom. and i think there's even a little touch of alphonse mucha down there. i think its lush and gorgeous. the one i made tonight is pretty good too. i hope to feature it as soon as i can get to a scanner. mr. president

god bless america.

not john taylor

okay, while we're on the subject of john taylor, (see below) i wanted to spotlight a pic i've been hanging onto for a long time. like, i totally don't remember how and where i got it. but my friends will no doubt recognize it on sight as an early 90's north carolina driver's license. and i want to make one thing clear. i have no idea who this dude is. i never met him, as far as i know i didn't know anyone who went to school with him, i don't remember going to 'the rocky horror picture show' with him, but ...judging by the date of the card (1990), this dude and i are pretty close to the same age. and whoah, can you tell he was into that 80's pop thing or what? check out that 'honorary member of duran duran' haircut... and that all-white flipped-up collar jacket with those very-dated-looking shoul' pads. hey, i'm not really bagging on the guy personally. he looks like somebody i probably would've enjoyed hanging out with. and hey, he's from charlotte NC! just like me. so, here's to you, mr. scott leo allen. wherever you are. don't be mad if you see this. we can be friends. (oh, just as a footnote, now that i look at it, its not a driver's license; only an NC state id. which i guess makes him a little bit younger... unless he was 'totally unable' to get his 'driving' act together.)

j.t. in a vest

yes, you know what this country needs now-more-than-ever? yes, more high quality shots of john taylor back in 'the day.' yeah, it seems you can find a lot of old duran shots, but rarely is the quality any good. i'm not sure if they were all just scanned in on substandard equipment, or if the original 'source' mags are too old and worn. but i do know all of you out there love a hot shot of JT. i know i do. and here he is at his bleached-bang ill-fitting-clothing best! man, he looks so young here, doesn't he? and what about those cheap 'pleather' mall pants? man, he looks like he just lifted most of the inventory from 'merchants' and 'contempo casuals.' ( a 'four seasons mall' joke, ladies and gentlemen! NC in tha hay-ouuuse!) (...i don't talk like that. where the hell did that come from?) i'm not gonna lie. there was a time when i would've loved to dress exactly like this. and one summer i did try to do that exact thing to my hair.

jeremy

what's cooler than i picture of jeremy irons? hey, a picture of jeremy irons smoking a cig! and what's cooler than jeremy irons smoking a cig?? a picture of jeremy irons smoking a cig with a god damn monacle hanging on! yeah, i've been sitting on this one for a long time. but since i saw the third 'die hard' over the weekend, i thought it was a good time to post this very cool and flash picture of mr. irons. he manages to pull a pose like this one without looking like a total joke. i wonder where the monacle came from? i mean, was he just walking around with it on his person, waiting for a prime photo opportunity to like, whip it out? or did he just dig one up in the midst of this photo shoot? who knows, but man, the end result is groovy with a capital g!

the headmasters : spelling

here's the cover to the latest album by the inventive glamrock-pop quartet
the headmasters.
it features all their newest songs, including the soon-to-be-released single 'spearing whales,' and the enchanting 'glittershock.' honestly, i may be biased, but i believe its one of the top five records released so far this year. its so catchy i almost can't listen to it hard enough. and if you dig the cover, you should see the gatefold! (stickers included!) i just can't help but rave about the headmasters. they manage to pay sincere musical tribute to the likes of old-school roxy music and the police...retaining a hard edge, yet are still able to pull off the 'earcandy' elements of duran duran and depeche mode. its hard to describe, but impossible to resist. 'spelling' is a must. go find it, and if you can't find it, ask.

legs in the 60's

hey, why not pause for a slice of cheesecake, you know what i mean? and here's just the flavor i'm 'talkin' about.' i have no idea who this chick is, but... woof! am i right? it bewilders me to know that most girls under the age of 18 would probably describe this lady's curvy, solid stems as 'fat.' i don't think 'fat' when i look at this chick ... i think something more along the lines of: '...va-va-va-voom!' seriously, she looks great. and what great shoes! what a great miniskirt! hey babe, steer clear of 'jenny craig,' you don't, don't, don't need it.

peppermoon 1972

wow, another stunning luminous collage from the talented hands of jean-lucien. i realize its nearly impossible for me to submit a non-partisan review, but i think this one is amazing. i love the light citrus punch colors. the model is hot. (i have no idea who she is, just for the record.) but wow. what skilled cutting and cool use of light. i think he sent this one to me about a year ago. maybe more. time flies, if you know what i mean. such great scissorwork. such a harmonious use of color and spatial relationships. and the bold lettering gives it that 'poster' vibe i love so much. man, there's just nobody out there that does it like my darling jean-luc. serious genius. it clicks and enlarges nicely, so enjoy. i'm pretty sure he used it for a notebook cover. seriously great.

it gives you an election

well folks, today is the big day. and a perfect chance for me to post this great playboy magazine cover from 1968. i should be able to tell you who was running that year. johnson and nixon? wait, lemme check. hey yeah, i was right. sort of. johnson was the incumbent, and nixon and humphrey were the runners? with wallace in there too? hey, i'm only going on what the big bad wikipedia is telling me. which is no excuse, i should have that information independently. hopefully, by this time tomorrow night, i'll have good news. but if not, we'll all get through it somehow, lovers. until then, i cast my vote for fun, love, delicious foods, good sleep, sweet dreams, excellent music, faithful friends, reasonable painlessness, plenty in general, and just enough sexiness-of-your-choice to 'get you through the night.' God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

election day tension relief

here is some much-needed, achingly cute, comic relief to lift our spirits after a past year and a half of non-stop politics. enjoy the cute! and cast your vote in the comments for your fave puss! mmm, just imagine those little paws pawing all your stiffness away...! (and hey, aren't you glad i didn't post that crappy song by Arcadia?)

tired

man, i am sooo tired tonight. like i don't know what my 'deal' is. i guess it could still be the 'time change' and everything. but whatever it is, i am soooo not feeling a zeal to post, but i couldn't leave those creeping 'shining' girls up as the first-image-to-hit-the-eyes. so yeah, i thought this great screen shot of rik mayall as 'rik' from 'the young ones,' dozing off with a copy of like, some book with karl marx (it looks like) on the cover. this is one of the first shots from the very funny 'cash' episode from the second season. yeah, i know how you feel, rik. i could use some quality z's myself. i love the way you can see vyvyan's arm like, extended into the frame, ready to rip the book out of his hands. and i love you all. more tommorrow, i hope.

louise and lisa burns, ladies and gentlemen

halloween was friday night, as you know. and i have no doubt hundreds of thousands of freaky folks stayed in and watched movies. and one such movie was 'the shining.' and one of the scariest things about that film is, are... the party-dressed ghostly twin girls, who roam hand in hand, interacting with danny from beyond the grave. being a twin myself, i know where those little ladies are coming from. and they deserve some serious credit. they are, indeed, powerful, indelible, horrifying, delightful, 20th century film icons. their names are louise and lisa burns. thanks girls, for all the terrible, long sleepless nights. and good luck to the both of you. (click to enlarge.)

a mad slice of life

man, you just can't beat authentic 1960's-70's MAD magazine for quality reading. seriously, that stuff, at its peak, could save your soul. jean-lucien just recently got his hands on a great well of MAD material, and as he sends me stuff, i'm posting bits. now, i haven't seen this strip detail in at least 20 years, but i remember every inkstroke. its hilarious. the drawings are by the absolutely great mr. george woodbridge. i love the way he conveys body movement, and i think the anger in the guy's face in the last frame is a scream. dig it. (click to enlarge)

rad and ralph

okay, i'm feeling a little bit jetlagged from the time change... and man, each time i go out on the chilly back deck for a smoke-under-the-stars, i hear the definite, 'real close by' leafy rumblings of either a raccoon or a skunk chonching around back there. which sucks-for-me, because i like to rule the deck in my 'smokin' own way. anyway, my jetlagged brain thought it would be worth a goof to post this hilarious shot of a press photo-gone huh?? it looks like it was obviously taken at some kind of 'harry potter' movie premiere situation. so we've got the often-elegant mr. feinnes, apparently thinking, '...hey, i'm gonna make like i wanna bite a chunk outta this kids head!' and lucky for us, the cameras were there to document his ill-conceived publicity goof. hey, maybe its not as funny as i think it is. like i said before, my 'internal clock' is all outta whack.

skipping church

i'm skipping church today. i'm just not feeling it. i love you.
