i needed a shot of pink, so i chose the cover to one of morrissey's finest singles, 'the loop.' it has been one of my hard, fast favorite songs since the first time i heard it. i was thrilled when he chose to do this admittedly lesser hit when i saw him in boston. the song is moody, throbbing, dark and upbeat, with lovely, even dreamy vocals and a coy, heavy hook. its got a slight rockabilly flavor... and the spare arrangement allows the structure to speak for itself. whether a live recording or the studio version, i've never heard it sound bad. seek it out and dig it if you can.
