o is for oksana

...oksana baiul. despite what i've put my mind through in the last several years, i still have very vivid memories of the 1994 winter olympics. i had been watching figure skating all my life, but i'd never seen anything quite as unique and spellbinding as the young ukrainian, miss oksana baiul. when she skated, it was like i was watching a nymph spinning silk. at several times during her olympic trials, she literally stopped my breath. just when i expected her body to go in one direction, she went in the other. just when i thought she was going to pose and move like the other girls, she didn't. and i was even able to see past the pink fluff and the ponytail to recognize the artist in there. i mean, look at this pose... what the hell...! it hardly looks human. and wow, the lovely pale fortune of her face. for those of you who've never seen her work, i've included her gold medal-winning performance below.
