tilt!

okay, jean-lucien also sent me this poster reproduction a few nights ago. groovy-looking, right? i have very vague memories of this flick being on HBO, back when HBO was the only game in town... before you were born, remember kids? so i got curious, and looked up the title on the good ol' IMDb. apparently, (and jean-luc, you'll be particularly amused by this...) apparently it was written by donald cammel... yes, the same donald cammel that penned the psychedelic masterpiece, 'performance.' it was directed by some guy named rudy durand, who never directed anything else. the tagline is quoted as "...everyone can have the chance once in a lifetime to hit the ball." that doesn't even make grammatical sense. and, the plot synopsis also reveals 'tilt' is actually brooke shields' name. (well, her nickname... but it think its hilarious that at ANY time during the movie, someone must actually call her 'tilt.') i just skimmed the 'plot,' but it seems at the end, she has a 'pinball wizard'-esque showdown with the rival 'baller' harold 'the whale' remmens, played by... (wait for it) charles durning....! (click to enlarge)

baby brooke

ummm, so i'm still dealing with just an iceberg tip where my picksh are concerned. but i did just re-snag this shot of a young teenage miss brooke shields. now, when i was growing up i remember movies like 'pretty baby' and 'king of the gypsies' on HBO. i remember my mother talking about her, you know, that whole issue of over-sexualizing children that seemed to blossom in the media around that time. at the time, like around the time of 'endless love' and 'the blue lagoon,' i remember her being so famous and so glamorous, and i knew how young she was. i wanted to be like her... i wanted to look like her. even at that age, i remember realizing her acting 'chops' weren't the greatest, but i did love the way she looked. and i loved all the attention she got. hey, i just remembered her being in that awful movie where she was a runaway that was befriended by george burns so she could avoid apparently being killed by some criminal ex-boyfriend. what was that movie called? oh yeah, was it 'just you and me, kid?' or 'here's lookin' at you, kid?' wait, i'm gonna look it up. okay, 1979, and it was 'just you and me, kid.' apparently the 'cute' tagline was: 'the story of two juvenile delinquents.' oh, i get it... its a cute joke, 'cause he's old. and the synopsis reminds me she was running away from drug dealers. oh, and how's this for a supporting cast? lorraine 'jaws, mrs. brody' gary, burl ives, ray bolger, and christopher knight! (?) and hey, what a surprise, its not out on DVD yet!

toothpaste

i love print advertising from the 1970's. and colgate is my favored toothpaste, and i dig brooke shields. so i thought i'd post this shot. (i needed a splash of pink and red anyway.) for a while there, in the mid-80's, i thought brooke seemed to be a little dopey when she started hanging around with jacko, but hey, we all grow up, don't we? and as cheesy as it is, i have to admit, i think she's beautiful. and i still like 'the blue lagoon,' and that movie she made where she 'teenage-hid-out' in george burns house. what the hell was that movie called? was it, 'here's lookin' at you, kid?' i think it was something like that. i think she's cool now, too. hey, i think i just saw her in a new toothpaste ad yesterday!
