roxy doll

ummm, okay... where do i start? when one thinks of the glam-rock heroes of the 1970's, perhaps no band was more glam than bryan ferry and roxy music. which leads me to the question: what the hell is bryan doing posing in this low-down, tacky, and very non-glam residential room? i mean, it's almost scary. dig that rinky-dink shower curtain. dig that sink behind him with naked pipes. the drapes on the window don't match anything. and it looks dark outside. what is he holding? a miniature version of himself? that doesn't cancel out the bleakness of that lighting fixture. and the ceiling is like, what? the whole damn thing is hilarious.

ferry frame

okay, i admit i don't really have a whole lot to say about this screen shot... except that i took it from a very groovy roxy music dvd i got from my partner some time ago. i'm just in the mood to post, so i guess anything goes. its weird, when i watch bryan ferry... i mean, he's incredible, and very 'lovely-to-me-in-the-face,' but... jean-lucien knows as well as i do that certain parts of his face bear an uncanny, even scary resemblance to a certain 'man-in-my-past.' i try not to think about that, about him, when i watch mr. ferry do his very fabulous thing. sometimes i'm able to turn it into a bizarro form of revenge. like, i watch bryan ferry, and enjoy his hot looks, knowing i would NEVER now entertain the other guy's looks, despite the similarities. like, the other guy can only wish he was as cool and flash and talented and sexy as bryan ferry. so yeah, i took this shot a long time ago from a 'deev,' and i think the tricking turned out alright. i think he was wailing out the marvelous 'roxy' song, 'do the strand' on some kind of tv program. man, he IS super-cool. lazy lush life

yeah, its a reeeal lazy night on planetcool. like, i'm in a decent mood and all that, but i'm feeling real sleepy... like the kind of sleepy you used to get if you had like, biology as your next-to-last class of the day. (i'm not busting on biology, but coincidentally, i always got drowsy around that time.) so yeah, i'm not feeling real creative or energized, but you know me, i like to mark my place, so i dug out this sexy, silky picture of bryan ferry, laid out for the laying. mmm, i wanna like, climb on that bed and open his up like a birthday present. he's sexy, sexy-when-he-wants-be. his belt is like, just begging to be undone. man, i soooo don't have anything real zippy to say... just juvenile comments about the once-roxy music 'front dude.' sigh. dig it, or don't... i don't care.

bryan ferry and jerry hall : price of love - video

i've loved this one since about 1987. i remember it was played on 'night flight' one night, (a cable program that featured music videos and interviews) ...and jean-lucien and i managed to get it on videotape. i remember thinking it didn't exactly sound like anything that was going around at that time... you know, on 'the charts.' but it didn't sound 'old-fashioned' to us either. and it didn't sound like the lilting, tame and dreamy sound of bryan and roxy music in the video for 'angel eyes,' which we'd already seen. no, this video had a rawness about it that wasn't quite metal, and wasn't quite pop. i confess, at the time i was young enough to be puzzled when it came to labeling it as one thing or another. but hey, i know now... its glam rock, kids. dig it. and pay the ultimate price, that price of love. (mmm, and do you think duran duran might've had a look at this clip before they came up with the concept for their video for the song 'my own way'..?? i'm just asking.)

f is for ferry

...bryan ferry, that is. i have to admit a little bit of ignorance. for the longest time i thought roxy music were always, and had always been, the lilting pastel fellows i'd seen in such videos as 'angel eyes.' it wasn't until relatively recently, like since the late 90's, that i realized they actually used to be hard... with a power-fueled, slick electric backbone and a sweatsheened, glittery, grinding, crashing, devil-may-care kind of champagne style. thanks to 'this wild machine,' i've been able to dive deep into their arguably better endeavors. i didn't realize what hot stuff i was missing! i used to think of bryan ferry as something of a drowsy, suit-and-tied metronome of man, swaying back and forth, crooning for the 'legend' soundtrack, asking me if my love was strong enough. how wrong i was. i now boast the fullest, most respectful 'hots' for the roxy music frontman, and all his jangling, mugging, gesturing, very glam ways. he has even ceased to remind me (facially) of some dopey ex-boyfriend. i love the early roxy music stuff. i now think he's pretty sexy. but i still can't help but ask myself if jerry hall's southern-fried voice ever got on his nerves.

glam mouth

here's a shot i snapped from the wonderful and very worth-the-price roxy music dvd jean-lucien was kind enough to give me a couple of months ago. i've taken dozens of shots of bryan ferry, but whilst i was tricking this shot, (taken during a tv performance of 'ladytron' ) i found myself struck with the curious way his mouth turned up on one side and down on the other. i thought it communicated better in black and white, so i drained all the color out of it, and did some artful cropping to somewhat hide the overgrown lines in his hair. i never really thought he was that good-looking growing up, and though i find him very lovely now, the verdict is still out on the 'raw sexiness' question. like, sometimes he turns me on, sometimes he doesn't. but i still think its a pretty successful shot. and i love the song, too.

ferry dust

this is a smallish one, but i love it. i wanted something punch-colored to go in this slot, so i chose this wild, hot shot of mr. bryan ferry. jean-lucien sent me this screen capture a long time ago. i can't remember exactly where its from, and i can't glean enough information from the image to place it, like as to what year it was. i can tell its probably sometime during the roxy music days. even in this small frame, in his eyes, you can see the wild dedication to his art. whether manufacturing hard, loud, jagged glam rock, or the calmer, more serene stuff from his later days, i've never questioned bryan ferry's sincerity. he believes in what he's doing, and he always does his best. he works damn hard. and we all reap the rewards of it.

here's a magnificent slide jean-lucien made from some of his own images, and some i sent him. i love the overall result. let's see, we've got a cool harmonious blend of bob dylan, romeo and juliet, and bryan ferry. i think i took the screen shot of ferry, and may have sent him the picture of the star-crossed lovers, but all the magic credit goes to jean-lucien; for he's the one who stitched it all together so beautifully. so dig it.
