night off

i'm taking the night off, kids. i'm like, tired like the kind of tired you used to get in 5th period, in high school on a 71 degree day, after a big lunch. you know, when you'd succumb to 'waking sleep' behind a propped-up book, so damn sleepy you don't even care if you get busted for snoozing. i'm tired like that. so, as i dive into those pillows and covers, i'm leaving the planet in the capable hands of 'the barrister dolenz!' yes, its a screen shot from the second season of 'the monkees,' an episode entitled 'a coffin too frequent,' co-starring george furth and ruth buzzi. its like, one of the worst episodes, and one of the best, at the same time. jean-lucien knows what i mean. it sucks, but i love it anyway. more tomorrow night lovers, groovy.

hey, hey...whatever

okay, i know all of you are aware this hasn't been a great week for me, so be kind when you think about how the postings suck recently. like, i found this a while ago, and it struck me funny. i think lucy and atarieyes both know jean-lucien and myself are, and have always been, huge Monkees fans. in fact, i'd be amazed if they'd since met two people more keen on the Monkees that jean-luc and i. still... this is frickin' hilarious. as i said, i am a huge, very loyal Monkees fan, but even i have never heard of this release. and i am very unclear. yes, its 'the Micker,' all mid-eighties solo with his chart-topping hit, 'love light.' i've never heard it. and who is he kidding with his smarmy eye-contact facial expression? does he think he's sexy or something? and what's with the hand half-down the waistband of his pants? its almost like the camera 'suprise-clicked' on him just when he was about to scratch his 'goods,' and he was all like, "...oh, hey...hi there, i um..." (gulps real hard) "...i didn't know you were gonna take the picture, i was um..." (long pause) "...just about to scratch the ol'... ballsac." long awkward pause. CUT. anyway, i hope you guys can see the humor in it.

c is for comics

man, i feel kind of blue and tired tonight... but i don't want to leave monday unmarked. so, keeping with my latest crazy alphabet concept, here's a little comic slide jean-lucien sent me some time ago. its an unlikely duet between the charming man morrissey from his smiths days, and the half-in-drag micky dolenz from the very funny first season 'chaperone' episode. if you know the show, then you get the joke. it's hard for me to feel too blue when i dig on it.

the micker

you'll have to look around pretty hard to find a more die-hard monkees fan than myself. call me crazy, but i don't think a day goes by that i don't roll some monkees either on video or audio or both. you just can't talk me out of them for like, sheer entertainment value. their music; whether played primarily by themselves or by others, is some of the best mid-to-late 60's stuff there is. granted, micky 'the micker' dolenz was an actor when he auditioned for the show, but quickly adapted to the musical side of the deal as well. hey, you know he's not the worst drummer i've ever heard. and his voice proved to be gold in hits like 'i'm a believer' and 'last train to clarksville.' but, if you think those two songs are what the monkees are all about, you probably should dig a little deeper. all things said, i love the groovy 'micker,' and he looks cool and capable here in a shot from the fliming of thier conceptual, underrated movie 'head.' check it out.

goin' down

i realized today that three days ago (i think) was micky dolenz's birthday. i can't remember how old it said he was, but i didn't want to let an event like that slip by unmarked. i must admit, i have enjoyed endless hours of safe, groovy, carefree fun thanks to the Monkees. micky, (or 'the micker' as i call him almost exclusively) always cracks me up, and reminds me that life shouldn't be taken too seriously. but he can be serious, too. his agile mysterious vocals on such tracks as the nesmith-penned 'daily nightly' are unique and strident. his soaring starring role in the classic 'pleasant valley sunday' is bright vocal pop gold. so here's to 'the micker,' ...always cool.

election night

yet another heading from a page in my journals. it features the holy george harrison and the hilarious micky dolenz. i needed something orange, and this strip came up. i always thought these strips would make fantastic cigarette lighters. don't you?
