sequin: my groovy new book

yeah, i really wanted to christen a new book tonight, but i didn't really know if i was gonna have the energy to actually conjure it in any kind of groovy way. but, the mood took me, and i have to admit, i'm pleased with the dreamy pinkish result. i don't know if i've ever had the sultry french temptress sylvie vartan on the cover yet. but if not, then she's wayyyy overdue. like, she's a confirmed High Priestess of the Eternal Bisexual Slumber Party. (mmm, i'm so tired and physically wiped out right now, i'm probably gonna read this in the morning and be all like, '...jeez, i hope nobody read that.' but anyway, where was i?) oh yeah, so i decided to depart somewhat from my 'dots across the bottom' formula. i'm pleased with the shapes and splashings of color i ended up with. it seems jussst 'femme' enough for my 'slinky-but-tough' beret-and-cigar miss vartan. i think the picture was taken from one of her several early 70's french tv specials... (which i would KILL to get my hands on a copy of... as long as it would be compatible with my machine... those specials were the 'costume change' most!! ) okay, so who else do we have down there? that pink 'sunset strip' is a scrap i've been holding onto for literally years. then, from left to right, we have a very cool rainbow-glitter steely dan logo, peter tork dressed like a hippy-dippy indian chief, my sweet george harrison, and finally, my darling ian holm, from 'alien,' as the evercool science officer ash.
overall, i'm pleased with it. i don't have any of the inside pages done yet... and nothing stuck on the back... but that'll probably come to me in the morning. until then, dig it! (click to enlarge)

because

yes, just because. meaning, you don't ever need a 'reason' to pay tribute to the late and very, very great mr. george harrison. here he is on the set of 'help!,' (freezing in the cold brisk wind, i understand...) contributing his mellow genius number 'i need you.' i think it goes without saying that he looks positively gorgeous. he is, and always has been, my favorite beatle, no contest. he looks fabulous through the whole movie. what a face. what a voice. what a lovely soul he was. and yes, he 'lives on' in his music and film and all that. i think i've mentioned it before, but his album 'all things must pass' was one of the very first records i had on tape. jean-lucien and i played it over and over and over again. we played that tape, literally, until the tape itself began to disintegrate and flake off in tiny black flecks. god bless you george. we miss you.

yet another fab horserace

yeah, same drill as before. who wins the race? well, first step as usual, can we eliminate richard straight off? yes, i think so. i mean, he looks pretty good, but sorry richard... better luck next time. and i think i have to cut john. i know he can look so much better. so its all down to mr. mccartney and mr. harrison. wow man, its not an easy call. ahhh, who am i kidding? i'm gonna give it to george. (mmm, that's a big effing surprise.) paul is just phoning in your basic 'paul' face, not much interesting going on there. but george looks marvelous. so handsome and smart and cool and somewhat 'elsewhere' in his consciousness, man. (?) yeah, it's george once again. better luck next time, lads.

hey hey, they hung out

i'm a huge monkees fan, as everyone knows. and i'm also a lifelong beatles fan. and being fans of both, i can attest to the fact that, back in the 60's, all the teen mags and stuff preyed on the manufactured concept that the two bands were harsh rivals, and were often like, openly hostile and competitive about it. it sounds like a cliche, but nothing could be further from the truth. once the monkees got 'big,' they inevitably met their english 'rivals,' and often did the 'hippy thing' together. both bands had common ground when it came to hassles with contracts and managers and publicity stunts and stuff like that. by the third album, the monkees were playing all their own music, and they were pretty damn good at it, considering davy and micky weren't primarily musicians. so here's groovy photographic proof that they weren't exactly tearing eachother's throats out. needless to say, we've got the legendary george harrison on the left, and the breezy, carefree hippy peter tork on the right. just for the record, i seriously don't think i've ever seen this picture before. god bless this wild machine.

hear me lord - george harrison : video

wow... what can i say? my dark and darling george had it right. so early, he sung with a depth so sincerely cold and scary it felt like a drowning ... so high and light that even one (or two) in the cradle felt like flying, yet so deep and serious, the message retained a context as certain as the grave. and all i can say is thanks.

soft focus slash

yes, slashfic. you can almost imagine the clandestine whisperings and possibly even entire plotlines that could spring from a shot like this one. the handsome eye contact beneath those beatle bangs... the liverpudlian accents, muttering loaded phrases such as, '...paul can't find out,' or '...it was like, you were singing to me in the studio yesterday,' or even, that slashfic staple, '...you don't have to say it, mate.' hey, if you're into 'slash,' you'll get it, and if you're not, you won't. personally, i like the john-george pairing. did you know 'slashfic' has been around like, forever? like i'm sure there were teenage girls in medieval times imagining the local blacksmith and the dreamy sheepherder, who knows? i'll bet even the bronte sisters had some stories than never got officially recognized.

fab smoke

tonight's featured smoker is paul mccartney, seen here with the gorgeous george harrison. i have to admit, i probably wouldn't have even tricked and saved this photograph if george hadn't been in it. i mean, don't get me wrong, i love 'beatle-era' paul, but george is way ahead of him on the 'fan' scale as far as i'm concerned. i mean, if someone asks me, 'hey, who's your favorite beatle?' ...like, before they can even finish the question, i'm naming my sweet george. i was born in 1972, and i have reason to believe the 'all things must pass' album was playing within earshot of my crib... so my ears knew george before they even heard the other three. so, dig this rare shot of the two of them... it looks like they're at a press conference, but i don't know for sure.

election night

yet another heading from a page in my journals. it features the holy george harrison and the hilarious micky dolenz. i needed something orange, and this strip came up. i always thought these strips would make fantastic cigarette lighters. don't you?
