peter's posters

i thought i'd posted all my 'young' shots of peter ustinov, but apparently not. i found this one whilst i was digging around in older files. peter was one of my earliest crushes. in fact, i think i had a crush on his voice before i ever saw his face, and didn't even know it. i remember when jean-luc and i were very young... like, 8 years old, we had this sound recording, on vynil, of the disney 'robin hood' movie. peter ustinov was the voice of the wicked prince john. after all these years, i remember how his voice stuck in my head. i remember even looking it up on the booklet the record came with. it was the accent, the texture, the tone, it was everything. not too long after that, i saw 'evil under the sun.' peter played hercule poirot, of course. i was in love at first sight. it don't know if it was because my young brain actually believed ustinov was solving the murder, i'm not sure. i've always liked smart men. and that voice! mmmm, so lush and complicated. here he is at about age 21 or so, amidst some french theatrical posters. just look at the sturdiness of his body....man, i want to 'jump-him-serious.'

ustinov, thirty-something

yes girls, that's a young and gorgeous peter ustinov in the suit. i think he's about 32 in this shot, and just gorgeous. when i think about how tremendously witty and clever he must have been, i know i would've been madly in love with him. i wonder what he smelled like the day this picture was taken. i know he smoked cigarettes, so its a pretty safe bet he smelled from an undercurrent of cigarette smoke. but the cologne and shaving preparations? i will never know. its no wonder i modern guys leave me cold. i never see anyone that looks like this. and i'm pretty sure he was straight, i mean, i've never heard any evidence to the contrary. maybe i'm deviant or psychologically odd, because i can't help but wonder what he was like in bed. his voice alone for me is adequate foreplay. oh well, before i sound too stalky, i guess i should move on.

o captain

it turns out i missed a birthday on april 16th, so i'd like to pause here and recognize the birthday of one of my first great loves; mr... (no, wait... is it sir? yes, i think so...) sir peter ustinov. of course, he died four years ago, but on the 16th he would've been...89? if my math is right. i think i first heard his voice on a disney recording of the 'cartoon fox' version of 'Robin Hood,' where he played the part of Prince John. i know i first saw him as hercule poirot in 'death on the nile.' i don't think there was ever a question of me being in love with him. i can never remember a time when i wasn't. this shot is from the 1962 film version of the melville classic 'billy budd,' where he starred as the pivotal captain vere. if you've never seen 'billy budd,' i can't oversell it. its thoroughly brilliant... a perfect film. i believe ustinov directed it. yes, he did. its one of those movies that's so riveting you forget you had water heating in the microwave for your coffee. i could go on and on about peter... he's so big and gorgeous and talented and sexy and...well, happy birthday, peter. sorry i'm a little late. i love you. god bless you. (...and just for the record : no, i don't think he's too big...at all. )

backstage

another shot of my darling peter ustinov. i don't know very much about what part he was playing when this photo was taken, but i seem to remember it was some kind of foole. i could be wrong. still, he makes the handsomest and most scrumptious foole i've ever seen. he's nobody's fool, that's for sure. so here's another open willing kiss to the late and lovely peter ustinov. may the sugared constellations be entertainment enough for your boundless genius brain on the other side of existence. i love you.

smoking hot ustinov

yes, it may seem odd to those that only know him from the agatha christie movies, but this is a teenage peter ustinov, featured as tonight's smoker. i would guess he's about nineteen or so in this shot. i've always been in love with peter, for as long as i can remember. i even used to swoon over his voice when i was as young as ...six or seven years old? i remember jean-lucien and i had an audio recording of disney's robin hood, where ustinov voiced prince john. he was a frighteningly talented man who could do it all. i regret i never had the chance to tell him face to face what he meant and continues to mean to me. excellence.
