deelish-ishness

man, i'm having trouble posting videos and some other stuff. and i still feel kind of blue because of the kitty-puss. so i figured a little puss-cake would be easy on the eyes and all that. so i found this shot of some chick posing in her sexy lingerie. that shade of almost-purple pink, it seems like that exact shade went out with the 80's. i love it... that barbie-pink shade. i love the way you can see the tiny details and wrinkles in the fabric. i haven't worn something like that since the late 1980's myself. i have no idea who this chick is. i assume she was in playboy. i love her dreamy pose, and the fact that you can see the door to her front yard or whatever. real cute stuff. enjoy.

screenland

here's a slice of notebook art i just ran accross whilst looking for some color. on the right, we've got the gorgeously scruffy and admittedly vulgar mr. eddie izzard, showing us he's number one! and on the left is a cutting of some antique screen magazine. that might be gloria swanson with the tigerskin, i can't quite tell. i used the strip as a heading decoration in one of my handwritten journals. i can't stand writing anything on a blank page. i've just got to glue something down to keep the visual hemisphere of my restless brain occupied during those inevitable writing pauses. pardon the four-letter word. i didn't think i needed to airbrush over it; after all, we're all grown-ups here, aren't we?

a pink panther

here's a great picture of morrissey, looking oddly furious, like a wildcat, braced to pounce, against a wall of bubblegum pink. i can tell from the haircut that it was very close to the time he produced his genius record 'maladjusted; ' which i think contains some of his finest solo stuff. songs like 'roy's keen,' and 'satan has rejected my soul,' are monumental. i loved the closely-cropped hair he wore around this time. its interesting to listen to that record, keeping in mind it was a transformative period for him. 'maladjusted' is one of my favorites. i think every track is a stand-out.

easy

here's another slice of notebook art. i know its not the best scan in the world, but what the hell. that's john malkovich from 'the shadow of the vampire' on the left, and eddie izzard from 'blueberry' on the right. the pink foil star actually shows up, which is surprising considering the equipment i was working with. man, that seems like a long time ago. that was three rooms ago. still, its a hell of a lot more groovy than journaling and composing on blank white paper... which i can't believe people do without going crazy.

magick

here is a shard of a notebook illustration i think jean-luc was largely responisble for. i think i spot john lennon from 'magical mystery tour,' but apart from that, it looks like the rest is mostly paint. but it works. and its lovely. i don't know if its just something about paper grain, but the more its cut and copied and pasted, it seems to take on a lovely deft watercolor quality. its all painting, after all.

dollface : book

i'm not sure why, but i just felt moved to post this book cover. i used to spend endless time browsing over books, most often in the 'young adult' section of the public library. it seemed books from that genre had the most varied, artistic, and overall, the most interesting covers. everything from 'true tarheel ghosts' to 'sweet valley high.' i don't remember ever seeing this particular book before, but i like the way it was scanned, ripped near the top, as-is.

wifey

here's another one that was made a long, long time ago from old and antiquated materials; i.e. scissors, glue, magazine and book parts, and pure imagination. you know, i don't know if its because its late and i've been packing stuff in boxes all day, but i honestly can't remember if i made this one, or if jean-lucien made it. it seems like, if i didn't make it, i think it might have been one of those rare occasions where i actually watched him make it... because i seem to have memories of being there when it was arranged and glued down. but 'twin-telepathy' is a freaky thing... like, maybe i was alseep when he made it and 'dreamed/was there for' the process. in any case, it makes a hell of a nice slice of art. so dig it.

let him kiss you

here is a juicy shot i snagged from morrissey's 'who put the M in Manchester?' dvd, which i highly recommend. its worth every penny they're charging for it out there. i think this shot might actually be from 'jack the ripper,' now that i look at it, but i could be wrong, i snapped it a long time ago. anyway, i was pretty happy with the tangerine color i managed to coax out of it. please check out the dvd, like i said, its worth it.

love gustav

here is a strip of a notebook decoration i did ...wow, it had to be over a year ago. but i needed something orange and pink, so here it is. the blokes featured are eddie izzard, (in the cap, from 'the shadow of the vampire,') and his co-star from 'shadow,' mr. ronan vibert. (smoking.) so i guess that takes care of my nightly 'person smoking' feature. its lovely. when i wrote longhand, i decorated every page. yes i did. (click to enlarge.)

fairyland

i needed something pink... so i dug around and found this vertical triptych i made some time ago. it was constructed from a 'badfinger' album cover, and other shards. the shot of morrissey is cut from a still i snatched from the 'last of the famous international playboys' video. i think it glittering and cool, and makes a hell of a bookmark. so dig it.

experiment

one day my partner threw a lot of stuff on the scanner and hoped for the best. i thought it was very like, 'warhol.' hey, i've been to a lot of museums and read a lot of books and seen a lot of stuff that passes for art, and i have to say this experiment in accidental arrangement still has harmony, integrity of color, and a certain jangly music that's hard not to dig. sometimes the detail and grain and resolution made possible by our current technology is genuinely frightening. like, i zoom in, and can almost sharpshoot some wild detail. anyway, i hope you dig it. it seems to bear the crystalline behavior of mineral formations. (please do yourself a favor, and click to enlarge.)

mucha: des arts

here is a somewhat rare work by The Master, Alphonse Mucha. i once had the marvelous opportunity to see an exhibit of his original works in Raleigh, NC. it was something. wow. i mean, when i looked close enough, i could see pencil erasures and proof his hands had been there. it was... really something. and i have to thank Kathy for going with me, and understanding why i cried.

vrooom!

here's a shocking pink bookmark my mate jean-lucien made a long time ago using pictures of t.e. lawrence and his motorcycle, pink stars, and princess leia organa. it looks fast and groovy and great. jean-lucien manages to coax just the right shades out of colors. the shade of pink is very 'revved-up,' which is so fitting for the fey horsepower of 'el lawrence.' dig it.

postale

i needed a thread of pink, so i chose this effervescent notebook embellishment jean-lucien assembled largely out of pieces i provided. i love it. i wish i could tell you who the guy with the hat is, but honestly, i have no idea. he just popped up one day, and was begging to be used. i think he's found a good home, nestled in the bubbly silky framing of my partner's genius eye.

swoon

here is a lovely and flowing complex piece jean-lucien sent me well over a year ago. it works on so many levels. my partner's almost supernatural talent for color harmony must've been born from living blind in his formative years. when your vision is hazier than a monet, colors are all you have to cling to. i should know; my vision wasn't too much better. yes, i still love this one. its got a tangling to it... hanging vines and florid jungle blossoms. something like that. a little dangerous.

sweet sylvie

if i start gushing over sylvie vartan, i'll be here all night. i wish her music and video was easier to get over here. thanks to this wild invention, i have enough to live on for a while. i don't remember where i found this image... i'm pretty sure its an album cover. she looks so simple and cute, but i suspect there's a toughness there that you wouldn't want to tangle with. her voice is capable of plunging to some deep lows, if you listen. anyway, i love this cover. so pretty... so sweet... so cool.

piano

this one is almost two years old, too. but i love it. its dreamy and sound. i love the overweight rafe and all the sky blue and pink. there's not much deep meaning, but its pretty.

strawberry milk

yet another longhand journal banner from an older book. what does strawberry milk have to do with it? not much, but i've always sensed colors suggest flavors, and vice-versa. anyway, its pretty.
