bohemian twig

i know, i know... twiggy gets more than enough praise and press without ME having to chime in... especially how i feel about like, the promotion of an impossible female body image or whatever. but i can't help it... i dig her. i think she's lovely and talented and has a good head on her shoulders. and hey, let's face it, the camera loves her. but, i'm not really showcasing this pic because its twiggy... more like, despite the fact that its her. i just love this photograph. end of story. i love the pose, i love the dress... i love everything about it. i can't imagine how many snaps there were on the contact sheet... and yes, i realize there was some massive annoying, non-glamorous wind machine blowing at her for hours during the shoot, drying out her eyes... but hey, when you look at a shot like this one... it all seems worth it, doesn't it? hey, call me crazy, but if it were affordable and socially acceptable, i would dress exactly like this like, all the time. i love all the ribbons and patterns... hey, there is literally nothing i do not like about this photograph.

fa-fa-fa-fashion...!

hey, if you're looking for mind-blowing content tonight, then i hate to disappoint you. tonight, i'm just gonna post some groovy stuff, and tell you what i think about it! being a curvy girl, you'd think i'd shun the likes of leslie hornby, aka twiggy. but i have to admit, i think she's gorgeous and groovy. so she happens to be skinny, so what? i'm not gonna 'hate on her' for that. she's still around, and if you've seen her lately, you might've realized she's a smart cookie with a level head, who just happened to be in the right place, at the right time, with THE right look. and she managed to never get that 'skank' chic thing going like her modern 'counterpart' kate moss. here she is, in a gorgeous aubrey beardsley-inspired photo shoot, with another model i don't recognize. (twiggy's on the left.) i love the costumes, the posing, the framing, ... i like everything about it. and hey, i would actually wear that. yes, i actually would. so dig it, the sleek chic.

the season of the wig

o yea, its a lazy night on 'planetcool,' but you know its also time for like, broomsticks and pumpkins and like, candy and junk like that. and since i happen to be a twiggy fan, i thought it would be an appropriate time to post this swinging shot. as the b-52's once famously said, '...what's that on your head, a wig!!' (woah, i am sooo out of good ideas tonight.) so here's miss twiggy, doing her best to make the wig 'work for her.' and i know i bag on blondes a lot, but i think twiggy is one of those chicks who looks best that way. and she can 'rock' the short hair that is her model 'normal.' (man, what the hell am i talking about?) mmm, you know i love you all, and i wish i could make entries more 'interesting' in the traditional sense, but hey, its late. (?)

patchwork perfect

i seriously hope jean-lucien doesn't mind that i'm posting this one. he made it, about three years ago. using paper as paint, he composed this cool and glorious patchwork of light and color. i loved it then, and i still love it now. he has always had the keenest sense of balance and color harmony. this collage feels pretty to every one of the five senses. i can almost smell and taste it. it has a watercolor-like quality that i absolutely love. not unlike a stained glass window, the light behind it enlivens the arrangement. he's such a genius. its just beautiful. i think it would make a marvelous album cover. and keep in mind, he cuts out and glues everything down by hand before it hits the scanner. what a master. my hero. just gorgeous. late birthday girl

well, i tried to get this in on time, but it looks like i was about 55 minutes late. september 19th was the birthday of the very 'cool-in-my-book' twiggy. she was born on september 19th, 1949 in england and given the name leslie hornby. and i don't even think about the whole 'skinny' or weight thing when i think about twiggy. i think that shortchanges her. she's always struck me as being a talented, beautiful, and happy girl. this cool shot was taken from what was her only major starring role in a motion picture. (as far as i know.) in march 1972, she starred in the genius ken russell's film production of the stage musical 'the boyfriend.' the first time i watched it, i was bored unless there was a musical number going on. but the more i watched it, the more i liked it. twiggy plays a young, dreamy, practical stagehand named polly browne, who ends up on stage for a sparsely-attended matinee after the star becomes unavailable. the movie's really long, but if you have the patience for some paced, somewhat dated storytelling, you'll be lucky enough to enjoy the several dazzling busby-berkely-reminiscent, larger-than-life musical numbers. it also features groovy appearances by christopher gable, glenda jackson, max adrian, tommy tune, murray melvin, vladek sheybal, and yes, the one and only, gorgeous and legendary, cool and glamourous, sleek and sultry miss georgina hale, who actually steals one number near the end of the film in her dazzling pink sequined dress. (hey, i might have to post that number later, if i can find it.)

rare model

here is a shot of twiggy i've never seen before. i love it. i love the hair. i love the mod style. i love her mod look. i dig the longer hair on her. so dig it, ... man, i should know twiggy's 'real name' by now, but since i don't, dig this shot. groovy.

mythology

here is perseus presenting the head of medusa to the kraken in order to release andromeda. i have always had a waltzing affinity with greek and roman mythology... and i have never been completely sure why. perhaps i steered towards the hard certain star of early civilization...perhaps i was enchanted by the magic... perhaps it was my deep belief that those two forces needn't be mutually exclusive. who knows? still, this slide suggests the deliverance of a princess. anyone can dig that, right?
