pierced

this one is also for sarah. i'm sure i don't have to tell her who it is, or what film its from. but for the rest of you who don't know, and for the 'cause of economy,' its mr. grover dale. or should i say 'the legendary grover dale.' god bless him, as far as i know, he's still dancing.

greta louisa

otherwise known as greta garbo. this is one of my favorite more common shots of her out there. i'm not sure this is the best version, but after some deft tricking by my practiced hand, it looks pretty good. i like it. she looks sexy and smart. the hair length is just about perfect on her. i'm not sure what year this is from, but if i had to bet, i'd say it was probably sometime around 'ninotchka.'

game hunting

this is marsha hunt. she was a level-headed gal who worked in hollywood in the 40's. she modeled, she acted when she could, and even wrote a book... the title eludes me at the moment, but i'll bet if you entered her name you could find it on any of the crazy book-and-or-auction sites. she had a pert, smart, one-of-a-kind face. i don't remember where i found this picture of her, touching up her curls with a rat-tail comb. perhaps its a blessing she wasn't more famous in the conventional sense. i'll always remember her posing and frozen and perfect. dig her.

garnett

yet another bloke in my 'ugly-is-the-new-cute' movement. this is richard garnett. he portrayed the exaggeratedly uncool and awkward character gussie finknottle in the 'jeeves and wooster' series. i managed to capture his striking profile in black and white. he has such fine skin, and he looks like he'd be a hot and fervent kisser. also, i like glasses and long noses and black hair. at least in this case. (this frame from the episode 'the hunger strike.')

pondering partridge

its late. not to undercut the brilliance of andy partridge, but i needed something black and white to stamp this letter off for the night, hence, the nice and tidy shot of andy, posing with cutlery.

pin-up

here is a dreamy shot of duran duran, circa 1982-83. who wins this horserace? i'm tempted to give it to john. yeah, considering i remember other shots from this session, i think i have to give to john. (and for those of you that don't know, john is the one in the hat.)

practice

tonight's featured smoker is ian holm. i'm tired, so hopefully it will be enough to say that i don't remember what play he was rehearsing, but i couldn't wait to post this lusty, hazy shot of this (mostly) welsh gentleman, smoking in some unknown room, going through some unknown lines, wondering about god-knows-what. perhaps he was worried about keeping the heat on at his flat. perhaps he was comtemplating how he could best get away with making one of the wardrobe mistresses. perhaps he was only thinking of how he could craft his role to get the lion's share of the applause. i don't know. all i know is i've never seen a face like that of ian holm. and i wonder aimlessly and endlessly about the infinite variations of his preferences and habits. hey, maybe he loves scooby-doo, what do i know?
