hot pink nick

wow... i'm sure there was a time in my teenage life where i dreamed about a moment such as the one depicted here: getting to meet nick rhodes. (!) here he is in ther earlier part of the 80's, judging by his barbie-colored headband. you may tease, but i think he totally 'pulled it off.' i mean, i don't hear anybody cutting down jack sparrow for wearing a headband... i think nick was just ahead of his 'new romantic' time. and he's such a reasonable gentleman. wicked smart, as they say up here in the american northeast. that dotted pink scarf suits him, and makes me want to 'teen' swoon. (and i also think its funny that the vertical-lined building he happens to be standing in front of looks very '80's-photo-shoot,' ... although i'm sure that was purely coincidental.) i love nick. or should i say '...i still love nick.'

harrison's basement

i found this one a while ago, i don't remember where. but its clearly a youngie harrison ford, looking good, apparently in some kind of room devoid of wall decor. dig that flash-bulb 'caught' look on his face. it strikes me as kind of creepy. sure, he's gorgeous and all, but do you see that shadow of hanging handcuffs? hey, i didn't airbrush that... i found it exactly like that. and that's pretty unmistakeable, image-wise. like there's virtually no way you could say, '...hey man, those aren't handcuffs.' and what's he doing with his hands? it looks like he's trying to 'mcgruber' connect two wires or something. i'm pretty sure this was mid-70's... like, somewhere in between 'american graffiti' and 'star wars.'

yet another van, man!

i can't think of anything terribly clever to post, so i thought i'd go with another smokin' van, man! yeah, can't wait to drive around in a van with a cartoon human footprint on it. i mean, yeah, i'm from the 'tarheel state,' so if it was my van, it might make sense... but the odds tell me the dudes in this vehicle aren't from the gorgeous, Old North State. California is where i'll bet they're from. i love this ad not only for the honey color, but for the groovy floor plan diagram. is there anything funny in the small print? let me see... it says there's plenty of room to 'do your own thing.' well, that leaves a lot open, does it not? it also boasts: '...lots of livin' room.' cool. yeah, i have to admit, i miss the 'van scene,' and feel a certain degree of privilege having been driven around in one early in my life. i have so many tiny, distinct memories concerning vans. some euphoric and charmingly innocent... some far blacker. still, if i was a rich man, i'd try to get my hands on a van. hey, if you can get the gas and choose the company, weather, and radio station, then its the only way to travel. (click to enlarge)

teenage troopers

yeah, i hope jean-lucien doesn't mind me posting this one. this one was more of a notebook illustration than a full-blown painting. plus, it was about three years ago. in case you don't recognize the subjects, that's an 80's dana plato on the far left, with her one ponytail on the cool side. and next, your basic stormtrooper, then the sometimes-foxy jason schwartzmann from some movie i don't remember the title of. i had added the caption on jason's side before i ever sent the shot to jean-lucien. i love it. i mean, its only a few images, but it definitely gets the point across. sigh

man, she looks like she's feeling the blues that often weigh on me around sunday night. this is, of course, the gorgeous miss jessica lange in the title role of frances farmer in 'frances.' you'd be surprised how hard it is to find a good 70's-80's era shot of miss lange. almost all the shots are very recent and of the 'red carpet' variety... which is arguably some of the worst photography alive. but i think this one is gorgeous, and just in case its the only thing i post tonight, please remember i love you all. and i wish you much happiness in the coming week. love.

tin machine promo -part I : video

here is part one of two, of the rare promotional video released for the first album by tin machine. an excellent hard rock effort with david bowie on lead vocals. this is one half of a promotional video released at the time. enjoy.

tin machine promo - part II : video

here is the rare promotional video for the first tin machine release, featuring david bowie on lead vocals.

nine five seventy-two

i made this collage in class one day... in my lap, when i was supposed to be paying attention; back when i was in class. i just had a black cardboard background, and started gluing things down. i didn't plan on anything, i just let the colors and the shapes lay where they wanted to. its pretty enough, isn't it? of course, this is the final image, after jean-lucien lent it that 'fish-eye' distortion treatment. let's see, clockwise, we've got... georgina hale as alma mahler at about 11:57... then, at 12:01 and :02, we've got the wild glam rock duo of ewan mcgregor as curt wilde and john-rhys myers as brian slade in 'velvet goldmine.' then, at 4:45, we've got georgina as alma mahler again, then a big, important number five (taken from the richard lester film, 'help!') , and then finally, at 9:45, a somber shot of my darling ian holm as tom frost in david cronenberg's 'naked lunch.' i think its groovy. amazing what an idle mind and a bit of technology can come up with. (click to enlarge)

miss eddie

yes, this is eddie izzard, in full-out 'realistic' 1940's drag for the lesser-known 2001 film 'all the queen's men.' its about a bunch of guys who go in drag during world war II in order to... infiltrate some spy thing or something, i don't know. it wasn't the best movie in the world. (matt 'friends' le blanc in is in, in drag, if you can believe it.) well, mr. le blanc doesn't 'cut it,' in drag, but not surprisingly, eddie really does. i mean, he doesn't change much... he doesn't change his voice at all, but his costume and manner works for him. he really is an effective female impersonator... and he's the only one in the movie that you actually believe could 'get past' the nazis without being 'discovered.' ( i mean, 'joey' from 'friends' in a dress? it looks like exactly what is sounds like.) if you ever have the opportunity to roll 'all the queen's men,' AND you have the facility to fast-forward though the many 'boring parts,' then i guess its worth a look. eddie is fun to watch.

john and yoko: thoughts

hey, did you ever look at a picture of the rapt and 'deeply-in-love' john lennon and yoko ono and wonder what in the world they were thinking? well, i gazed at this picture for quite a while one night, and i think i've solved the mystery.

much needed georgina

yes, it's been a little too long since i paid tribute to my silky blonde muse, miss georgina hale. i wonder if she has a middle name? and if so, i wonder what it is? (i've never had a middle name come up in any of my searches.) anyway, she's incredible. umm, yeah, this is a shot from the 1975 film 'mahler' directed by the great ken russell. wow, i love this movie. i realize its an acquired taste, but what can i say? i dig the dazzling strange caviar that IS a ken russell classical music biography. i really should own a copy by now, but my life just hasn't gone that way. yet. so, just for the sake of celebration, enjoy this frame. in the movie, its right before she bounds around the countryside, silencing all of nature so her moody husband gustav can get some 'tortured artist' writing done.

jack, serious

i can't ever remember not liking jack lemmon. i also can't remember a time in my life when i wasn't aware of him. somewhere along the years, i fell in love with him. he's got it all. style, talent, humor, and unexpected sexiness. in movies like 'the apartment' and 'the china syndrome' he was so foxy i couldn't stop myself from what it must've been like to know him romantically. (wow, that sounds really flaky, but whatever.) and in 'some like it hot,' he's a perfect example of a comic-relief part that gets laughs without losing his dignity or class. that couldn't have been easy to do. i heard a lot of his leading ladies were crazy about him. i think he was infinitely sexier than cary grant. don't get me wrong, cary grant is excellent, but i can't remember him ever 'turning me on.' i think i can honestly say i've never once wondered about taking cary grant's shirt off. or thought about kissing him. but i have thought similar things about jack lemmon. he's just a treasure. and in this shot? woof! i think need to juice up that time machine again. sigh.

another van, man...!

yeah, i was looking through my old files and came across this. and i thought since my last posting of a van advert was a hit, i thought i'd throw this one out there. i love the swirly, late 60's artwork. and i dig the fact that it's advertised as a 'street van.' like, is there any other kind? i mean, i don't see too many vans out there burning up the 'dunes,' or like, rough-ridin' it through the rocky mountain areas. no, a 'street' is where you see the vast, vast majority of vans. its like saying 'mouth toothbrush.' so yeah, i dig this for so many reasons. since i've studied advertising, i dig it on that level. and i also can relate on a personal level... for most of my childhood, my dad drove a chevy van. and i love vans. i love the space, the high ride, etc. of course, these days, they're not as cost-effective as they used to be. let me take a closer look at this ad. hey, 'click-to-enlarge' and check out that dude sitting down on the far right. in case you can't read it, he's saying, '...did you know Street Van spelled backwards is Teerts Nav...?' ummm, how is that a selling point? i wish i could tell you who the artist is, but i don't recognize the work. the small print in the lower left quadrant is pretty funny too. so rock on, Street Van! roll!

shady

man, i'm still not feeling so great tonight. i don't really feel like posting too much, but... just to mark my place, here's a groovy shot of a teenage girl shoplifting sunglasses!! lift it, girl! lift it!

real young duran

alright, i'm getting sleepy. but i just ran across this real early shot of three of the original durans. in fact, the three original durans. umm, from left to right, we've got simon le bon, john taylor barely visible in the shady background, and the slim and brilliant nick rhodes to the far right, looking pretty nice if you ask me. then again, i have always been a 'nick girl.' its a nice shot, and makes me want to roll some early duran. good night and honest love to you all.

the who : a quick one while he's away - video

one of the who's finest live performances caught on film. and one of my favorites. keith is a killer. no wonder the rolling stones felt dejected about following their number. they were an absolute avalanche.

artful dodge

man, what can i say? this ad seems to exemplify that old saying about: '...gas, grass, or ass... noone rides for free.' i mean, it looks like we've got the 'grass' and the 'ass' covered. but in these economic times, it looks like its 'every man for himself ' where the 'gas' is concerned. as i've said numerous times; i think i picked the right time not to own a car. and hey, dig that sweet van in the back! did they really sell them 'on the lot' all tripped out like that, paint-job-wise? the girl is cute though. i love the denim. all that deelish friction... but hey, i don't wanna sound too lesbo. (mm, at least, not more 'lesbo-than-usual.') and the ad slogan... i mean, anything about putting something 'in your garage' seems to have 'sexual innuendo' written all over it. then again, i do have a dirty mind... that's been well-documented. for historical reasons though, i love the ad. you'd never see anything like it these days.

john lennon is f***ing around

yeah, anyone who's ever flirted with the idea of being a beatles fan, has probably learned that they, (particularly early in their career) were encouraged to f*** around! often it was with props... like umbrellas, fake moustaches, canes, hats, coathangers, fruit, or in this case, naked broken baby dolls. yes, before the fab four realized that they, and not their publicity machine, had the 'power,' they were often subjected to the lamest of awkward photo opportunities. this shot is a good example. it looks like an outtake from the infamous 'butchered babies' cover... which i've never seen one of. i mean, i've never seen a real one, like one that was mid-60's released-before-it-was-banned. i think its hilarious that john has obviously put his own little rectangular stoner shades on the weirdy plastic baby. man, it gets more surreal the more i think about it. like, when john was brushing his teeth that morning, did he know he was going to be posing with busted naked dolls? the world is weird.

spooky bootleg

yeah, you know i love bootlegs. (mainly where records and videos are concerned.) there used to be these great record and video conventions held in local hotels in the greensboro, high point, winston-salem area in my fond home of north carolina. jean-lucien and i would fill up our sky blue honda accord and head out with cash in hand to see what we could 'score.' and we snagged some good stuff. but ultimately, that's really not the point. the point is bootlegs. japanese, dutch, italian, you name it... some of the coolest stuff seemed to be floating around out there at all times. here's a japanese bootleg i found a picture of. i assume its the 'exorcist' soundtrack, but since i don't read japanese, who knows? it could be some release from damn 'soundgarden' or something. (i don't own any soundgarden... in fact, at the risk of seeming ignorant, i'm not sure what they sound like. metal? mmm, who cares?) anyway, i like this image, so i saved it. linda blair was really a beautiful girl. oh, if you click to enlarge, you'll see i've added my own 'translation' to the japanese script in red white and blue.

dangerous letter

ummm, i don't have a lot of ideas tonight, but since i've had 'dangerous liaisons' on semi-heavy rotation, i thought a sexy picture of john malkovich as valmont couldn't hurt. here he is writing a sly, manipulative letter on a concubine's ass. but man, he looks good doing it. i know the long hair is a wiggety-wig... john hasn't had a full head of hair since he was like, nineteen years old. but yeah, if john actually walked around looking like that, he'd be dragging girls clinging to his ankles through the new york-and-LA-streets. but not only would i need a wig and costume, but a time machine. (...mmm, story of my life.) yeah, after all these years, john-as-valmont has a place in my drastically romantic, almost-self-destructively romantic heart. he would sooo 'have me.' and its also a fun movie for me because michelle pfeiffer's character doesn't have the easiest time. which is cool, because she gets on my nerves. if you ask me, out of the three principal player's fates, i think valmont's is the easiest. in short, i think he wins 'the war.'

neil innes : frontloader - video

hey wow, so it looks like i have the ability to post videos again. (this sweet machine is so fickle.) so here's one i've wanted to post for a long time. and since thursday is my laundry day, and since i've neglected it two weeks in a row, i really need to 'no excuses' get my clothes in there, i thought i'd let the witty neil innes and his mona lisa leather jacket take us to the laundrette. groovy. (there's a bit of rwt in the beginning, the music starts at about 20 seconds, so let it roll.)

i'm a little blue and worn out tonight. but i love you all and hope to be back in form tomorrow.

kisses and hugs.

ann in leather

hey, you can't go wrong with a cool, groovy, rare-to-the-eyes shot of the firecracker that IS miss ann margret. as you can see, here she is posing in some skin-tight, fringey black leather cowgirl gear. she looks amazing, as usual. i added the colored dots in photoshop for the hell of it. man, out of all the shots i've seen of ann in my entire life; like if you added up all the pictures i've seen of her like, ever... i think there'd only be less than three 'bad ones.' i have no idea if this was for a movie or what, and i really don't care. she's just like, butterscotch-and-or-tangerine eye candy. she looks great for october. crack your whip and ride on, miss ann... you are the crucialest.

caine smokes

yeah, i haven't posted a celebrity smoker in a while. so i thought i'd post this shot of the man who gave
'cockney' class, mr. michael caine, going all 'dragon' on a big cigar, whilst his dishy cockney mate bob hoskins stands by, very successfully rivaling mr. caine's hotness. hey, if i was playing a hot game of 'who would you rather f***, then i gotta admit, for me, its a hands-down blow-out. i'll take hoskins every chance i get. yeah, you might disagree, but i've just got a wild thing for hot bob. i love this shot... it's got that kray-brothers british gangland thing going for it. and if you click to enlarge, and look closely, i think it says something about 'erotica' and 'striptease' on the wall behind them. mmmm, i think i'll take 'em both, and proclaim monday night as 'slut-night.' (mmm, what the hell am i talking about?)

mystery girl

we're all beatle fans here, right? i mean, lucynell... you love the fab four, so i'm sure you're very familiar with this. yes, its the back cover of their ...last? second-to-last? record, 'abbey road.' i have to admit, i never wondered who the chick breezing by in the blue skirt was. but i found out. reportedly, the shape belongs to none other than my darling, miss sylvie vartan, who served as the opening act for the boys when they toured europe... back before they stopped touring. apparently, they kept in touch and everything over the years. and rumor has it she was hanging around with them when the album photography was going on, and managed to jump into the frame. so yeah, it seems i 'knew sylvie,' before i knew sylvie. hey, looking at this picture puts me in the mood... to do what, you may ask? it puts me in the mood to roll 'abbey road!' the b-side to that record is amazing. (mmm, no 's' .)

hey, hey...whatever

okay, i know all of you are aware this hasn't been a great week for me, so be kind when you think about how the postings suck recently. like, i found this a while ago, and it struck me funny. i think lucy and atarieyes both know jean-lucien and myself are, and have always been, huge Monkees fans. in fact, i'd be amazed if they'd since met two people more keen on the Monkees that jean-luc and i. still... this is frickin' hilarious. as i said, i am a huge, very loyal Monkees fan, but even i have never heard of this release. and i am very unclear. yes, its 'the Micker,' all mid-eighties solo with his chart-topping hit, 'love light.' i've never heard it. and who is he kidding with his smarmy eye-contact facial expression? does he think he's sexy or something? and what's with the hand half-down the waistband of his pants? its almost like the camera 'suprise-clicked' on him just when he was about to scratch his 'goods,' and he was all like, "...oh, hey...hi there, i um..." (gulps real hard) "...i didn't know you were gonna take the picture, i was um..." (long pause) "...just about to scratch the ol'... ballsac." long awkward pause. CUT. anyway, i hope you guys can see the humor in it.

deelish-ishness

man, i'm having trouble posting videos and some other stuff. and i still feel kind of blue because of the kitty-puss. so i figured a little puss-cake would be easy on the eyes and all that. so i found this shot of some chick posing in her sexy lingerie. that shade of almost-purple pink, it seems like that exact shade went out with the 80's. i love it... that barbie-pink shade. i love the way you can see the tiny details and wrinkles in the fabric. i haven't worn something like that since the late 1980's myself. i have no idea who this chick is. i assume she was in playboy. i love her dreamy pose, and the fact that you can see the door to her front yard or whatever. real cute stuff. enjoy.

jane

for some reason, there's been a lot of james bond stuff on tv today. i guess there's a new bond movie coming out or something. i haven't really been paying attention. but i love 'bond girls' as much as the next guy. so here's a slinky windswept shot of a young jane seymour i found whilst pearldiving one night. actually, i don't think this shot was from the bond film she was in. i'm not even sure i know which one it was. i think it was the one with like, tarot and voodoo undertones, with yaphet kotto. i don't feel like looking it up right now. but i figured a little cheesecake wouldn't hurt. if you ask me, jane is sort of like, a hazelnut cheesecake. (if that makes any sense.) i know her best from the christopher reeve film 'somewhere in time.' but she looks great here, doesn't she? so dig on jane. i actually really love this photograph. i mean, even if she wasn't famous or anything, the picture is great exotic cheesecake. she's mysterious-deelish. (click to enlarge)

berg for the heck of it

hey, we can all use a little shot of humor. god knows i can this week. so i found this classic dave berg strip i haven't posted yet. it's from vintage MAD magazine, of course. and its a short joke, but one i think we can all relate to in one way or another. i love the attention to detail... like the suburban house the kid's running in front of in the first frame. i love the bitchy look on the mom's face in the second frame. and in the third frame, well, first, i love the stick-lamp living room lighting-pole thing off to the side. i'm pretty sure my house had some lights like that at one point. and the icing on the cake is the way the kid invites us in, via looking straight out of the frame to make eye-contact with the reader. and he doesn't have a caption; because he doesn't need one. the drawing says it all. i just love it. (click to enlarge)

arlena

you'll have to bear with me for the next few days. i'm giving myself a pass as far as being too 'deep' or meaningful. i just want to get my skates back on, lace them up tight, and start moving again. so here's a shot i captured and tricked myself of the lovely, leggy miss diana rigg as the doomed diva arlena marshall in the great agatha christie film 'evil under the sun.' here she is checking in to the hotel. her diva rival (maggie smith, playing the hotel proprieter) has just said, referring to mrs. marshall's vacation; "...do have a good, long, peaceful rest...arlena." mmm, the foreshadowing-of-death is palpable. i think the costume is hilarious. she's on this tropical island where its apparently supposed to be 'summer hot,' and she's in this heavy, zebra-striped get-up with a tight skirt, long sleeves, black hose, gloves, and a damn hat with glam netting on it. man, she's a 'bitch on wheels' in this movie. i love it. bitch on, arlena. well, until you get killed.

ragged

i want to start by thanking my friends for saying such nice things about milkyboots. you would've dug her, she was a very great, calm, expressive, affectionate cat. now, i have to somehow pick my chin off the ground and move on. understandably, i had no idea what to post next. (milkyboots is an impossible act to follow.)
but you've gotta put one foot in front of the other and go on. so i thought i'd post this photo jean-lucien sent me a few days ago. hey, its a duran duran 'fan scarf!' hey, i'll bet that's real silk folks, what d'ya say? born in britain, but mmmade-ity-made, made in china. (fabrique au chine) (?) i think i can say with certainty that i never had one of these jive-ass scarves. but at least it was a photo screened on there instead of a 'photo-like drawing.' (atarieyes, you know what i'm talking about.) and i'm not surprised the owner of the scarf didn't iron it first. it was probably comprised of such highly-plasticized fibers that it would melt into some kind of bastardized toxic 'pancake syrup' if it came in contact with a hot surface. they all looked pretty great in that photo shoot though. even andy. (ouch.)

good-bye milkyboots

my milkyboots died today at 4:31. i was there with her, holding her paw. she was 15 years old, but i'd only had her for about five months. i loved her like crazy. she loved me too. sleep well, milkity-boots...

and thank you.

the night's been stolen

yes, tonight's report has been stolen by dashing highwayman, adam ant. it was my report he wanted, and my report he shall have! yeah, i took this shot from the great 'stand and deliver' video. i added the little skull thing with a 'wingding' key or something like that which i stumbled onto whilst trying to do something else. and in the words of that guy from 'xanadu,' "...i liked it, so i used it." i'm still pretty exhausted, so i don't know if i'll post much more, but all you guys are in my thoughts.

Thursday, October 9, 2008

she's tired

i am tired. tired of playing the game. ain't it a fwiggin' shame... ah, you know the rest. well, i wanted to post something tonight, just to mark my place. so here's a nice shot of greta garbo.
i love you all, and thank you all for loving me.

roxy comix

nothing tonight, lovers. i've been staying up too late, and its caught up with me. gotta sleep.

in the meantime, dig on this comic illustration of glam-era bryan ferry and the rest of the roxy music blokes.

john vs. john

umm, i know i'm gonna get hit for this, but i think i choose john malkovich. especially in that outfit. but seriously though, if john l. and john m. got into a no-holds-barred fight to the death, i might bet on mr. lennon in that instance. he seems to have enough stuffed and buried rage to slaughter at least malkovich and damn keanu. (who was also in 'liaisons,' in case you forgot.) anyway, i hope you dig this slice of 'john-on-john' notebook art. okay, this is probably gonna be the last one i write tonight, so all of you be good, and i'll see you back here soon. i love you all.

ride, julie, ride!

um, yeah i really don't feel like i need to say much about this one. i mean, i think the hilarity speaks for itself. i mean, who rides a motorcyle in an ugly bathing suit? and what's with the helmet? i mean, yeah, knowing if you wipe out on a motorcycle doing like, 75 miles an hour, you need to be concerned about head injuries. yeah, you can wisely not worry about massive, shredding injury to your 'bathing-suit-nude legs' that leaves them looking like a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. and the full face of make-up will ensure you look your best when they pull your torso out from the gears of a tractor-trailer truck. i have no idea if this idiotic pose was some kind of promotion for some movie... like, i don't remember her making any movie with a slew of 'biker gang' scenes. in bathing suits. hey, you all know i love julie, but i still dig being totally unclear about this one.

parsely, sage, rosemary ...and le bon

okay, i think i already mentioned this hasn't been the happiest day for me, and i could use a laugh, so figured maybe one or two of you out there that might also think this is as funny as i thought it was when i found it. i mean, it seems like such an obvious joke, but the visual image helps a lot. and you know i love paul simon's 'songwriting mind,' but if we're talking about the 'male hotness' category, simon le bon is definitley a 'face' upgrade. and i dig the fact that whoever posted it used a cute shot of syme... but i think everything below the neck, like the shoulders and sweater, i think that was 'all paul.' hey, her name is 'mrs. robinson,' and she 'dances on the sand.' whatever. and i think it also helps the humor factor that mr. le bon has this overly-serious, even menacing, 'ultra-cool' expression on his face. he's dead bloody serious about his folk-rock hits.

take me away

umm, okay, i think most of us out there remember those old ads for Calgon bath stuff. i remember my old grandmother in morganton, nc used to have a pink-themed box under the sink in her old house. i think i remember wanting to sneak some in MY bath, so that i'd be glamorous 'like in the commercial,' but i think, even back then, i suspected my mother or somebody would smell all the perfumey-ness and ask me about it. so i think i just washed my hands with some on the 'down low.' and even that small amount was like, strong enough to give me a headache. she also had some hand lotion in a decorative glass dispenser shaped like a partially-shucked ear of corn. (?) was it supposed to be like, 'country-homey' or was it somehow supposed to suggest it would make your hands 'silky,' like as in 'corn silk?' probably not... it was more likely just a tacky design concept. oh, and one more thing about washing my hands with the Calgon... maybe it was because of some kind of chemical reaction thing, but when i started to lather with it, the wet powder got really hot in my hand. weird. (oh, and by the way, that chick sitting in that champagne glass full of scented soap is probably gonna get a bitch of a urinary tract infection.)

blue psychology

blue is right. i feel pretty blue. i'm pretty sure my old cat 'milkyboots' is really, seriously thinking about cat heaven. so i've been trying to look after her and keep her as comfortable as i can. she's not doing so good. so, i might not be my witty, cheeky, highly-productive self for a while. but i can still post a groovy psychology book from the 70's. i didn't have to trick it much. umm, i don't have much else to say about it except that it seems like a pretty interesting book. and the Escher illustration is cool. but that almost goes without saying. (that is an Escher, isn't it?)

truman show

i think this picture is hilarious... i don't know why, i just do. i've you've visited 'planetcool' recently, you may have noticed i dig shots of celebrities caught 'unawares' at the legendary Studio 54. so, a few nights ago, i found this shot of the talented and eccentric novelist truman capote collapsed in some kind of bathrobe garment alongside an unlikely female starlet. does he have on like, bedroom shoes and a straw hat?? whatever you think you look good in, man. he looks like he doesn't want to be recognized if he can help it. good luck, i mean, you're truman capote. and what's with the sleek and sexy carrie fisher-resembler sitting there? was she hoping to turn on his 'straight' side or something? i have only two words for her: lost cause. seriously, he looks like he was shanghai'ed as he stepped out of his shower at home and just dumped there. and what do you suppose could be in that big white bag? party-enhancing chemicals? some brilliant manuscript brought there purely by accident and used to make confetti for when the white horse and rainbow-painted twinks prance out? who knows. still, i know i might be alone in this one, but i think the picture is a scream. (oh, and just to give truman some due credit; i've read 'in cold blood,' and i thought it was some very daring and spare poetic genius. a lethal, potent piece of storytelling. really effective stuff... but that doesn't mean this picture isn't hilarious.) click to enlarge.

art in red

here's a cool slice of notebook art i just dug up from my archives. jean-lucien sent it to me a long time ago. from left to right we have the red-tricked shot of georgina hale as alma mahler from ken russell's 'mahler,' then a slice of morrissey from the 'dagenham dave' video, then an unknown elongated female shadow. i love it. it has a dazzling stained glass effect. just gorgeous. and no, i don't think it 'means' anything... its just beautiful for art's sake. happy birthday susan

yeah, i just noticed that today is susan sarandon's 62nd birthday. so, since i dig her, i thought i'd post a little tribute. i do think she's beautiful, and i do think she can act. and man, she's really stuck in there, hollywood-wise, and established herself as a movie star in the classic sense. i can't remember the first time i noticed her. it must've been like, the first time 'pretty baby' was run on HBO, because i know i watched that. even though i was like, nine years old or something, our mother let us watch everything. (and i thank her for it.) and of course she was hotly prominent in my full-throttle 'rocky horror picture show' days and nights. and i dug her nude-and-lesbo-curious ways in 'the hunger,' and nude-and-hetero-wanton ways in 'bull durham,' and her semi-nude-pg-13-ways in that marvelous turkey, 'the witches of eastwick.' and let's not forget her never-nude-gun-shooting-girl-power-ways in 'themla and louise.' yeah, i can't help it, i love 'the suze.' happy birthday susan, and thanks for all those cool and groovy 'greensboro-high point-winston-salem-augusta-georgia' movie nites!

caroline munroe

hey, you might not think you know her, but you do. she's the english cult movie actress caroline munroe. i don't think i've seen any of her movies, apart from the hilarious and very much 'worth a look' christopher lee vehicle 'dracula, a.d. 1972.' yes, most of us know her as the buttoned-up female reporter in the classic adam ant video 'goody two shoes.' she's the one who ends up like, stereotypically 'letting her hair down' and gets slutty all because of the pirate-styled charms of mr. ant. and here, she seems to be hawking some rum. do you think she's got enough eyeliner on? and really, who pours a drink that way? with like, their arm at a 90 degree angle, without looking down at what she's doing? hey bitch, you might spill it. man, i'm sleepy. this might be the only thing i post tonight. so dig it.

a little valmont

yeah, my energy seems to have like, split on me. i was all set to really post a bunch of crap, but i just don't have the steam. so i dug kind of deep in my files and found this cool screen capture of john malkovich as valmont. man, its too bad he can't go around dressed like that, like 24-7. so sexy. i don't even have anything clever or witty to say about it. but i figured i couldn't go wrong. so dig him, and hopefully i'll have more for you tomorrow night. i love you all.

duran duran - secret oktober : audio-video

here's one of the more splendid and acclaimed duran duran b-sides. its called 'secret oktober,' and i had it on a vinyl b-side. simon sounds florid and hot and the beat is easy and dark. this is a great transfer, audio-wise. and it is, after all, october. i love you all.

sea green playmate

so, my inclusion of undressed females seems to be rather popular so far. in that case, i don't feel too appre- hensive about posting this sudsy, lovely darling from the mid-70's pages of playboy. i have to confess, i don't know her name. but i think she's curvy and cool and presumably 100% real. what a great shape she has, and what a comely pretty face. i love the sleek shine on her long hair. i love the peek of an old-fashioned quilt on the bed beneath her body. i like the sunlight through the window, suggesting a 'daytime' tumble. she's beautiful. whoever and wherever you are, honey... thanks for having the nerve to take your clothes off, so young girls like me would have some concept of aphrodite and the glory of the female form. very sweet. (and as i've often said before, please don't flag me... they're only 'human boobs.')

soldier jane

yeah, i looove jane fonda. i love her sweet sexy looks, i love her 'power to the people' political dealings. i wasn't too big on her when she 'went fitness,' ( ala 'body fusion') but i loved her as the original electric barbarella, i loved her hooking it up in 'klute,' and i loved her playing it 'calm' in '9 to 5.' she's truly great-looking. just for your information, she made this amazingly cheesy movie in 1962 called 'the chapman report' which was a not-so-thinly-veiled picture about the kinsey report. (it also starred shelley winters, henry daniell, and cloris leachman, if you can imagine.) jane plays a painfully frigid housewife who seeks therapy to find out why she can't have an orgasm. and she smokes a lot and wears amazing hats whilst spilling her 'frigid housewife' guts to her therapist. i've only seen it once, but i'd love to see it again. i remember it as a super-entertaining cheese-fest. but she looked great in it... very young and pretty. rock on, soldier jane. i dig you the most. (and did you see her in 'they shoot horses, don't they?' man, what a hard movie that was.)

mort drucker encore

i posted this one a long time ago, like in march... but since it was buried so deep in the archives, i wanted to post it again. again, in a shameless play for lucynell's attention. i wanted to make sure she sees it. it's a late 1970's ad from 'seventeen' magazine for pursettes tampons. and i'm too young to remember pursettes ever being on the shelves. but i love the ad. most of you will certainly recognize the work of the great mort drucker, who drew most of the movie parodies for MAD magazine. if i was going to run down all the aspects of the ad i find hilarious, i'd just end up quoting the whole thing, so here it is. if you 'click to enlarge' you should be able to read all the copy. the main girl, (the one with the tampon problem) has an ali mcgraw thing going on. its great. so dig it. (oh, and just a last note... you can see in the third frame the girl with the ponytails mentions that the 'pons are 'pre-lubricated.' with what? i mean, that must not've proved to be a hit with the american chicks, because i've never heard of a 'pon being pre-lubricated since.)

fab vote

okay folks... here's the question: one photograph, four beatles, one winner. in other words, according to you, which liverpudlian lovely wins the 'hotness' contest? judging on this photo alone, who do you think is the dreamiest and creamiest? normally, i cast my vote for george almost like, by default, on account of he's my overwhelming favorite like, 99% of the time. but in this shot, since george is doing something weird with his mouth, i think i'm gonna have to give it to john, john, mr. johnnity-john winston lennon. he's very cute when he smiles like that. and he seems to be having a great time, too. he can't wait to get his hands on some cool american cigarettes, some sweet dollars, and his choice of some 'barely-legal' screaming and hysterical yankee panties. paul and richard don't look so bad either. i hate to say it, but now that i really take a good look, my sweet george comes in a close 4th. sorry george, you know i love you the most. (click to enlarge)

paperback smut

i love paperback book covers. my mates and i know those bygone joys of prowling through the wild stacks at the second-hand run-down smut establishment, 'atlas book exchange.' and thanks to this wild machine, thousands upon thousands of book covers can be had for the diving. i love this one. i love the colors, and the artwork is actually quite good. and the chick is cleavage-sexy in her black bustier. and the copy on the front is hilarious. since the print is faint and small, i'll quote it here. it says: '...the doctor knew all about women and he solved their sex problems in a most unique manner. his beautiful receptionist also had a problem - Lesbianism.' mmm, i don't know too many lesbians who would see that as much of a problem. i can just see k. d. lang on the couch now. kd: "...i don't know what's wrong with me, doctor... i just keep diving into chick-flesh. you've got to help me...!" yeah, i think most of them are pretty cool with it. and i think its funny because the whole thing seems to suggest that he's planning on screwing her, and then she'll like, 'snap out of it,' her desire for late 60's lady-action. like, only a 'real man' can turn her around. hilarious.

morrissey in profile

i really should post more shots of my darling morrissey. here's a screen capture i took from my 'who put the m in manchester?' dvd. it was originally in color, but i thought it was more striking in black and white. what a face. what a difference a little bit of age makes. so handsome. in this shot, i think he's singing the amazing, dreamy slow song, 'i'm not sorry.' its a great song. i might post it if i can find this exact version. i don't really have too much to say about this one. he just looks great, and that's more or less the reason it made the cut. so sexy.

upskirt art

i hope jean-lucien doesn't mind my posting this. it was a great, groovy notebook illustration he sent me a long time ago. it shows his keen eye for balance, color, and style. the original was probably no larger than a pack of gum. i love the colors. and the image in the middle is a screen capture of georgina hale as mrs. alma mahler from the ken russell film 'mahler.' its a fantasy sequence depicting gustav mahler's death, funeral, and subsequent cremation. she dances a saucy can-can on top of his casket. then she strips down to lacy panties and dances seductively amidst a group of soliders with a groovy fan of purple feathers. its really something. especially if you like either ken russell or georgina hale. great work, jean-luc.

jack and 'jelica

okay, i know i've posted a lot of 'celebrity' picksh lately; not to mention a goodly share of anjelica huston picksh, but i figured one more couldn't hurt. i think this one might also be a 'studio 54' shot. but i think its quite good. i mean, jack looks good, and anjelica looks gorgeous. i like the angle, i like the contrast, i like the flower in her hair. i don't really know too much about their relationship like, factually... but in this shot, it sure looks like they're into eachother. i don't know if they ever had a child. but wow, they sure look good together. man, i don't know if i'll ever go 'clubbing' again. even if i had the opportunity, i don't know if i could manage the energy. plus, you have to shout all the time, and worry about 'where the hell is my purse?' and i don't like that feeling that can best be described as, '...i danced too hard to that last song, and now i honestly can't tell if i'm three seconds away from dropping the vom-bomb.' and i don't really like not having zero control over the music. and it gets hot in there, man. and i can truthfully claim that i've never had sex in a club. but considering my behavior through much of the '90's, that's purely accidental. (click to enlarge)

novel reading

ummm, i'm sure i'm going to wake up tomorrow and wonder why i posted this. i think i'm still on a salt-grease-sugar rush from the Wendy's i had for dinner. (several hours ago) i came accross this whilst pearldiving and i thought it might be worth a laugh. first of all, the title more or less lets you know what kind of book you're in for. and the photo is hilarious. do you think that chick on the right could move her hand just a little closer to that dude's jock? i dunno, when i look at this cover, the 'three's company' theme starts involuntarily playing in my brain. ( '...come and knock on our door...take a step that is new...' ) the one on the left looks like karen allen. and the guy looks like every other 'macho' turkey from the great, glittery decade. my mother was a stewardess, by the way, in the late 60's. but i don't remember her ever telling me about any kind of 'mile high' goings-on. and she looked a lot cuter in her uniform than these two chicks do. my mom was the prettiest in her class. (fly on, pretty mommy. i love you.)
